Infertility

um, help...blushing already

So, I had a prog. injection on Monday. It was about 4 days worth of regular PIO shots. I have had a really bad stomach ache and been really bloated the last few days and I thought it was all of the new meds I started for IVF.

However, I read the post last night on PIO s/e's (I didn't take PIO's last IVF). Anyway, a few girls mentioned constipation. Well, I realized that I haven't gone poop almost all week!!! I am usually very regular.

I am assuming I must be constipated. I have never had this issue, so I don't really know what to do. I have read some people buy Colace? Is that the best thing to do? If so, how long does it take to work? Am I going to be running to the bathroom for the next 24 hours? Is this going to get me back to "regular" status or am I forever doomed?

I'm going to go hide under the covers now in embarrassment!

TIA

  • You are too funny! No need to beimage!!!!!

?I had the opposite problem with the PIO, however, I have a HORRIBLE stomach, even when I am not on meds. ?I had an issue similar to yours at the end of the summer. ?I was in such pain, I was ready to have DH take me to the emergency room... i never go there! ?So I took a glycerine suppository ( Gross, I know) and I have to tell you, did the trick in about 10 minutes. ?I was not running to the bathroom either, it was pretty easy.?

    ?Good luck.. feel better!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Colace, prune juice (I know).  Coffee often does the trick for me (usually when I don't want it to).  Your doctor could also call in a script for Lactulose, which is kind of a sugar solution.

Hope your problem, um, resolves itself soon!  (Don't be embarrassed - really.)

  • Uggg - I have that problem ALL the time. When I'm not in the 2ww I eat a few squares of Ex-Lax chocolate laxatives - that does the trick! Otherwise I usually just wait it out and eat a lot of fiber. Fiber One products have changed my life...Good luck!

  • Thanks girls!!

Smilee - I was in your exact same boat on stomach issues. I don't know if you've tried acupuncture, but it totally straightened me out. I went from being miserable about 5 nights a week after meals to never having stomach aches at all. My acupuncturist had to take a medical leave starting Aug. 1, and I have been fine since then, but I am so afraid that all of this is coming back now!

I'm going to try the coffee and finding a new acupuncturist. :)
I've had a little bit of a break through this morning on this whole "project." Maybe I can work things out this time on my own. If not, I'm going for that suppository. Smilee - was it just at a pharmacy?

  • Yes... I got them at a local CVS. ?Good luck!

I started accu last september and I did find some relief for the stomach issues... amazing, right?

I stopped in aug after the IVF debacle. ?I really need to start going again!?

  • Yeah, I was surprised how many women had the opposite issue b/c the PIO backs me up!!  I try to eat a ton of fiber when I am taking it but I haven't needed to use anything else, though the DR recommended at the ER that colace was an option.

It happens to all of us (one way or the other) no need to be embarassed ; )

  • Yep...I'm with you on acu Smilee. I am going to try to start back to it if my acu found a replacement.

And, I just love how many people have viewed my post and are probably laughing over their breakfast right now!!! :)

  • Laxatives give me awful stomach cramps.  Prunes always do the trick for me and I actually like to eat them:)  I buy the dry prunes.
  • Okay, at Hy-Vee, Hen House, Wal-mart, etc, they have this new fiber one muffin mix. Make some muffins! I had this problem last weekend, hadn't gone in 4 days. Made some fiber one muffins, and they are really good, and in a few hours, all was well. And my stomach did not cramp up or anything!
  • Yeah, the constipation on PIO for me was baaaad.  You might also try Activia yogurt.  It helps regulate things.  Otherwise, Fiber One bars are good and make sure to drink plenty of water.

When I donated a kidney to my dad a few years ago, they gave me Colace for constipation but I never ended up using it.  They did say it was some of the best stuff out there.

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!

  • I don't have that problem with PIO, but I totally do with stims. ?Colace has always worked for me. ?I think the bottle says it usually works in 12-72 hrs after the 1st dose. ?I've *never* waited 72 hours. ?For me it usually works in a day or less.
