First Ultrasound!!!

Well, let me just say my ultrasound tech SUCKED. Sucked. I walked in, she didn't say hello or anything. Just, "Okay, lie down on the table." She didn't explain what she was doing or anything. She put the towel over my pants, squirted the goo onto my abdomen, took pictures and barely said a word. She DID say, "Baby is wiggling a lot" and "There is the heartbeat". She didn't say anything about arms or legs or anything. I had to say to Brett on my own, "Do you see the legs there honey?" Then, almost as soon as we got in there, she said, "Okay, you can use the rest room now." I went to the bathroom, came back, there were two pictures printed out and that was it.

So, I looked at her and said, "So, are you allowed to tell us how baby is measuring or anything?" She said, "About 10 weeks. I don't know if they'll change your due date or not." And opened the door for us to leave. She didn't tell us how fast the heart was beating or ANYTHING. My mind was swimming and I wish I'd have been quick enough to ask my questions. I was just in shock about how rude she was.

I will be calling to complain tomorrow. I understand she does this all day, every day, but, I thought it was pretty rude of her. This is our first baby. If I didn't know enough from you girls, I would have had NO idea what was happening. She gave us two pictures and didn't even tell us what is what. (Again, I know from seeing all of your pics), but, it would have been nice had she told us what our pictures are.

Either way, I'm happy that everything seems to be good with Baby and I refuse to let it bother me in any major fashion.

Sorry you got such a sh!tty tech. I think they sometimes get so wrapped up in what they're doing that they forget that there is someone laying there wondering what is going on. I've had enough U/S that I just start asking questions. Will you be having an NT Scan in a few weeks? Hopefully your tech then will be forthcoming with information and you'll be more prepared to ask questions.

As for the pictures - I am no good at figuring out what's what. I can usually pick out the profile but that's about it. Hopefully someone else can help.

I would complain too! That sucks you couldn't ask any questions. Did she at least tell you what the heartbeat was? I want to predict if it is a boy or girl!

Sorry you had a bad experience with the tech. Hopefully you will get someone different next time. Yay for first picture of the little one! I'm no help at telling what is what, but look at that little peanut!

I don't care if you do the same thing everyday, that is no way to treat a patient. Maybe next time you could request to have someone different? I'm really sorry you had to deal with her.

Nope. She didn't say anything about heartbeat, other than clicking on the heart area and saying, "There's the heartbeat".

What a cute little bean! Yeah I have no clue what they are in those early pictures...I still don't. They labeled Ian's first one which was up and which part was his bottom...I still didn't figure out that was a baby.

Happy for your 1st ultrasound

I totally know about sucky techs; the 2nd one I had the technician was MEAN - even my husband tried to reason with her but she was just so cut and dry. We only got 3 pics of the exact same image and she refused to do more or even print the gender ID pic. Hopefully you'll get a nicer tech next time!

On a happy note you got to see your little peanut!!! But yuck for the tech...I would totally call and complain especially since during a healthy pregnancy you only get a few sonograms, maybe you will get an extra one out of the deal!!!

Yay for getting to see the baby!

I agree with everyone else you should complain. My hospital stresses patient centered care all the time and that we should imagine what kind of care we would want provided if that was a loved one. When you do the same thing day in and day out I find that we become somewhat detatched, which is not a good thing. Clearly your ultrasound tech has no empathy.

I hope your next ultrasound is much more pleasant and informative!

Glad you at least got to see your little bean! I agree with PPs. I would think even if you do the same thing day after day you would still get caught up in the excitement of someone seeing their baby for the first time. She must have a sucky life Sad

I'm so sorry you had a horrible tech. I would def. call if I were you. It's not right that a tech could nearly ruin such an exciting time for you two.

On a brighter note I'm glad everything is okay with baby L and I'm so excited for you and Brett!
