TTC After a Loss 6 Months+

Does Dh need to be at the 1st RE appointment?

So my title says it all, LOL.  Do I need DH to go with me to my 1st RE appointment?  Emotionally, I'm sure I'll be good on my own, but I didn't know if they would have any questions or anything for him.

Re: Does Dh need to be at the 1st RE appointment?

  • I don't think my dh went with me to my 1st appt. It was a few years ago so I don't remember. I think she just saw me we went over my history and schedueled some testing to be done.

  • He doesn't need to be there, and you could call and ask if there are any forms he needs to fill out ahead of time.

  • I took DH with me, but he didn't have to do anything.  My main reason for wanting him there was to hear everything that would be involved for himself.  They did ask some questions about his medical/family history so if he doesn't go with you maybe you can get some of that infofrom him before you go.

  • You should call and ask, I'm sure it's different everywhere.  I was told DH needed to be at mine (we went over both our health histories extensively, and talked about the steps we'd take moving forward - even if he hadn't needed to fill in his history info, it was helpful to have him there to hear what was going to happen next).

  • mine did, and I'm glad he was - only b/c a second set of ears when you are hearing so much new information was really helpful. Also, RE was able to send him for bloodwork right then and there at the office saving DH a trip and getting the testing-show on the road.

That being said he has not come to every appointment since then.

m/c#1 07/16/08 (11 weeks), m/c#2 10/10/08 (8 weeks). and then nothing since except every test possible (no answers). IUI#1 and #2: BFNs Super lucky to be buddies with Peetie. Our out of nowhere, surprise DD born 5/29/2011
  • We haven't been to one yet, but I'd guess that it's probably not a bad idea.

  • My dh has come with me to each of the "what do we do now" appts, including the first which was nice because they took some family history from him and I agree that a second set of ears in as stressful as a scenario as we're all in is definately not a bad idea.
