I delivered at Mt. Auburn. It was overall a good experience. I had a difficult delivery. I was going to need a c-section, but last minute the doctor tried the vacuum and it worked. Also, DS had cord around the neck and passed meconium before coming out. But they handled everything in stride and he was fine. Everyone was very nice and the lactation consultants were great. My only complaint was that I felt like I didn't get a lot of guidance/checking up on. I am a first time mom and felt kind of lost and overwhelmed and would have liked it they came and checked on me a little more. But I don't know if any other hospital would be any different.
I delivered at Mt. Auburn after seeing the midwives there throughout my pregnancy. I cannot say enough wonderful things about the midwives, so if you're considering MAH, consider them as well. Hands down the best part of the MAH experience -- and they check up on you, unlike the experience of the pp. I wound up with a c-section in the end (my son's hb was crashing with contractions), and I had a different midwife visit me every day during my entire stay. I also found the nurses to be very attentive, sometimes even overly so. (I eventually had to request a "do not disturb" sign so we could all get some sleep.) The LCs are typical pushy LCs, but they did work my insurance so that I got a free pump. My only negative experience was with the on-call OB...she was a total insensitive b!tch. BUT...she gave me an unobtrusive scar that healed nicely, so I guess she wasn't all bad. L&D is pretty nice and comfortable, and MH was able to stay with me all week and order off the menu for each meal. (I've heard from some other moms that meals for partners aren't always standard.) I will definitely deliver there again.
I also delivered (naturally) at Mount Auburn (and went there for all pre-natal checkups with the midwives) and couldn't speak highly enough of the care I received. I ended up being induced - but they at least let me go over by 2 weeks to see if things progressed on their own - so it wasn't the birthing experience I'd hoped for, but the midwives were positive and encouraging. After 12 hours, and because I was in back labour, the midwife advised me to have an epidural, which again wasn't something I'd wanted, but because it was "given judiciously" as everyone put it, it ended up speeding everything up at then end and my daughter made her appearance less than 3 hours later!
The L&D rooms are large, comfortable and not hospital-like - I had one with a jacuzzi tub, which was a godsend. The recovery rooms aren't as nice - and, to be honest, I wasn't as happy with the nurses on that side (I felt a little forgotten about - and we didn't even have anyone wave goodbye when we left) but it was a lot better than other hospitals that I've heard about. Mind you, a midwife did come to see me at least once a day, and the nurse who had seen me when I was going for my pre-natal checkups visited too which was lovely.
Suffice to say, I'm going back there for the next one
