Starting cereal---2 Questions for ya

So pedi said to start a couple TBSP cereal 1X day and then 2X day. No rush. So here are my questions I'm hoping you ladies can help me with:

1) How do I know when to thicken it a bit. (To start we mix 2 TBSP with 4-5oz of formula.

2) How long do I wait before adding the second feeding? Does it matter?

Didn't think of these at the appt. TIA!

  • hmmm, my pedi told us we could start DD at 4mo. also and I just remember making it very soupy in a bowl. I didn't add it to a bottle. Every other day I'd thicken it a little til it was more of an apple sauce consistancy. I haven't even thought about starting DS, his next visit is in 4 weeks so I'll ask then. I do remember that I fed DD morning and night. HTH.

  • Oops- I should have clarified that we will be feeding with a spoon, not in a bottle.
  • I started out pretty soupy and then about every other day I would thicken it a little. DD seems to like it better now that its thicker. Its about the same constancy as baby food.

  • i kept adding the liquid RTF formula til it was like applesauce.  DS inhales it like hes never eaten before in his life!! we feed at his 2nd bottle feeding of the day...and then again at dinner time.
