FWIW, I found this on babycenter:
https://www.babycenter.com/404_is-it-safe-to-eat-soft-cheese-when-youre-pregnant_3175.bc
Basically it says what some of you ladies have said, soft cheese is fine if it's pasteurized. I just saw a lot of people saying they were giving up soft cheeses so I thought I'd start a new post about it.
Here's another article:
Re: Soft cheeses
People tend to get paranoid. As long as it's pasteurized, it's fine!
When all else fails, ask you doctor -- much more reliable then internet people! ie...my RE and OB (yes I've asked both) laughs at the whole "no lunch meat" thing, says hot dogs are fine (unless you eat them raw--ew!) and a lot different things people freak out about are just fine.
i had to order lunch for the office today from a sub place. i didn't think twice about digging into one.
I'm still taking allergy meds (Class
, drinking Coke and Sweet Tea sometimes, and eating deli meat.
We'll survive!
Life of mrsjanks
meh.
i'm normally an "everything in moderation" kind of gal but, that's for my regular normal life which i've been living for 31 years and doing a pretty darn great job at (if i say so myself).
this baby thing is a little more complicated. i'm sure i'll be more comfortable the second time around but, for now i'm gathering all kinds of info before i make any decisions... so i check the cheese first to make sure it's pasteurized
This. As long as you're sensisble about it, like not eating sandwhich meat that's been sitting out all day. I wouldn't do that even if I wasn't pregnant. I still have a cup of coffee everyday.
And I recently read that all this paranoia about sushi and tuna is harmful for pregnant ladies, because it's turning women off of fish entirely, when it is actually important and healthy for baby's development to eat fish and get your fatty acids.

I almost cried when I realized my beloved comte cheese is not pasteurized.
Ah, I miss it more than my old friend coffee.

I'm all about the soft (pasterized) cheeses. I eat them almost everyday, especially the Laughing Cow swiss. Tasty!
My doc also said not to freak about the deli meats. As long as you don't buy them from someplace sketchy (she mentioned Aldi's by name), then you are fine.
Sadly the pasteurized thing is hard for us. DH is really, really, really into cheese so our house is usually full of rare, unpasteurized, natural cheeses. Regular store bought is just not the same!
