Pregnant after a Loss

My doctor told me to gain weight and I chuckled. . .

So, I've managed to get to 24 weeks and change without really gaining any weight.  Admittedly, I lost about 8 pounds in first tri/early second tri due to nausea, food aversion and a nasty little UTI (only symptom was intractable vomiting - nice).  I certainly haven't been dieting; I'm just not putting away the chow like I used to.  As a solid size 20, eating has never been difficult for me.

Technically, I'm still 2-3 pounds below my PPW.  So, at this last visit on Monday, my OB tells me she really would like me to try and work on eating more and putting on 10-15 pounds over the next 14-16 weeks.

I was seriously tempted to ask her to repeat those words into a microphone as I've never heard them uttered by any physician I've ever had.  I've battled my weight my whole life - and the one time it's okay to put a little more on, I'm struggling.  What are the odds?

:::sighs:::

2 years TTC with 5 losses, 1 year recovering, 6 months applying for adoption approval, and almost a year waiting for a placement. Then, a miracle BFP at age 36!

  • Right there with ya...our ob said to gain 40 overall and I had a good giggle in the car at that 7wk appt. I'm still laughing! I'm eating but like you I just can't put it down like I used to. We go to trivia every thursday at Applebee's and I used to be able to eat the 9oz steak&portabella with broccoli and mashed 'tatoes and finish it all...now I eat my steak a few pieces of broccoli and give Dh the rest(love the 2 for 20!). I'm gonna have to start drinking that ensure/boost gunk soon. Last visit they told me to up my caloriesIck!

    At least we know the real reason soon to be dads gain "sympathy weight"...their partner just can't finish anything

  • I had that with my first pregnancy.  Gained 14 lbs the whole time.  Just didn't seem to be the same room in my stomach as before.  I also get my metabolism finally started working because a couple weeks after giving birth I weighed 30 lbs less then when I got pregnant.  Here's hoping that happens again!  Course last time I gained almost all of it back - boo hiss.
