Students?

I know this has probably been asked, but being a SAHM, are any of you also students?

I'm (still) working towards an AS degree in Administrative Medical Assisting. I've been going to college very part-time since I graduated high school in 2005. DH and I decided that it would be best for us for me to SAH and finish my degree online, instead of continuing to juggle work and school and add a baby into the mix.

Anyone else going to school?

Re: Students?

  • i am taking my final class to finish my graduate law degree in taxation. It is NOT easy juggling it all. Make sure that your DH is onboard with picking up a lot of slack.

  • I'll be starting next month with a 12 credit hour load.  I'm very excited yet nervous.  It wasn't the original plan when I started staying home but I am happy it is all working out.

Oh he is! I already started classes in June (DD was born in May, nuts I know) DH has been amazing helping me out! I have to say, I'm very lucky that not only was he on board with letting me be a SAHM, he's being so supportive and helpful with me finishing school. I'm a lucky woman!

  • I'm a full time, undergrad student and I'll be continuing this fall. Luckily, all of my classes are online, with 4 class meetings in Tampa for my Spanish 2 class. Right now, I work part time, but I'll have 12 weeks FMLA and decide how often I can/want to work. So for a while, I'll get to be a SAHM! DH already knows that he will have to help out a lot once school starts back and he's okay with that. We're going to try and get LO both breast and bottle feeding after a month. Good luck!
  • I do on line schooling right now. I'm in my 2nd year of college. I did try the campus but it was hard for me. With a toddler child it was hard looking for a baby sitter. So evening though on line is a little harder is easier for me. Now being pregnant with baby # 2. It's going to be harder. But well take a term off in October.

AS long as your husband is there to support you through the whole thing. It well be a little easier. You have support.

  • Im getting excited I will start school next month but only part time since I have a 4 yr old and 1 1/2 yr old and pregnant with the 3rd one. My dh is also very supportive and Im so lucky to be at home with the kids.
  • Yes, I go FT - I'm currently working on my associate's degree but plan on getting at least a bachelor.

Like others said, it is hard. I have to do most of my studying and homework after she's in bed (naps are a crapshoot). DH is a student, too, so we both have to schedule time for going to the library to study. I am glad I'm doing it though. :) GL!

  • Yes, and I have a very full schedule this quarter! I have 21 credit hours that I am taking online. For me, it's been a little stressful here and there, but all in all it makes me feel better about myself. I love being a SAHM but sometimes I feel useless because I'm not out in 'the real world'. School helps me feel productive. However, I should tell you that my grandmother watches DS one day a week from 10-6. I do a large majority of all of my schoolwork during that time. I'm the sit down and get it all done at once type. lol.
  • I'm working on my AS in bioscience while I'm a stay at home wife. I go on campus 3 days a week and take one class online. So far I'm loving it.
  • I'm also a SAHW and I am doing one more semester one campus this fall (then graduate with BA) and then in January, I'll be home once again F/T doing my master's completely online (with some internships thrown in).

I also don't have the children part of it so it's easier for me but I find that alternating between housework and schoolwork works for me. This way my braind doesn't fizz out from too much of one thing.

GL! It is so worth it and your children will always remember how hard their mommy worked! Oh, and ditto pp, make sure DH is totally on board!

  • I also SAH and am a student. :) I'm almost finished with my AS in Police Science. I only have about 5 or 6 classes to take than I'm done. I'm taking on a full load in the fall because we're moving to SC next spring and I want to be done before we go!

I do a mix of online and campus based classes. I like going to campus for class but I hate getting a sitter! Sometimes the online classes are just the easier way to go!
