Parenting after a Loss

What baby items are you keeping and getting rid of?

A second baby may be in our future but not planning any time soon.  I'm trying to decide what to sell or store to make room for all the new stuff she keeps needing.  I gave away a bunch of newborn clothes and now everyone keeps telling me not too for baby number 2.

What are you selling or keeping?

Maternity clothes, snugglenest, swings, bassinett, baby clothes, bouncer

Re: What baby items are you keeping and getting rid of?

  • I wish I had gotten rid of a lot of DS' clothes.  He has soooooo many clothes, and I stored everything.  If this LO is a boy, we'll probably only be using the newborn and 0-3 sizes of the clothes we have (possibly 3-6), since DS was born in Nov. and this LO will be born in Feb.

I want to buy a new bouncy seat, but I'm not sure yet.  If I do, I'll probably donate the one we had for DS.  Like an idiot, I loaned all my maternity clothes to my cousin, and I'll never do that again.  Now she's using them and I need them.  I'm keeping that stuff until the bitter end when we officially decide we're done having kids.  And this time, I'll be adding fall/winter clothes to the mix, so I'll have maternity clothes for all seasons after this.  Pretty much everything else we're keeping and re-using, since the LOs are so close together.

  • I plan on keeping everything for a while. I don't want to re-buy a bunch of stuff for another baby.

  • I'm gonna keep everything. I've been packing away clothes neatly as she grows out of them, so that it'll be easier when #2 gets here (if it's a girl).  I kept the boxes to almost every single thing so that when we're done with stuff we can box it up nice and stack it in the basement, then when we're done, i can give it away nicely packaged. I know, i'm anal. haha

    This is me exactly!

DD hates both the bouncer and swing so hopefully our next baby will enjoy those two brand new items!

  • I don't think we'll have another baby so we're getting rid of almost everything. I figure if we can get back some money by selling the stuff on CL then we can re-buy down the road if we change our minds. I'll probably keep some clothes for more of a sentimental value but not much else.

ETA: I also don't think that the baby stuff is too expensive so I figure it wouldn't be that bad to rebuy some of it. I know I wouldn't need nearly as much for #2 as I thought I did this time.

I feel similar to this.  I've saved all the boxes from her stuff so I can sell it on CL easier and I was planning to sell just about everything.  Plus I bought a lot on CL so it's kinda already used too.  I'm ready to get rid of a lot of stuff I'm just terrified of an oops we're pregnant.

This.  I'd be willing to lend a few items to people that DS has outgrown, but I'd want them back for our future LOs.

  • I will pretty much keep everything I think cause I def want more kids just not soon. Our stroller is black and grey so it can easily be used for a new baby. I will get rid of/buy all new clothes and bedding for my next LO. And whatever else needs to be replaced of course like bottles, pump parts etc.

  • I'm keeping everything. We spent a lot of money and received a lot of gifts and I'd hate to give it away just to have to buy clothes over again, esp if we have another boy in the same season! I will, however, be ditching the bouncer and the swing. We used the bouncer so much that the seat is stretched out and terrible. The swing barely worked half the time so we'll be getting a new swing for the next one. Other than that we're going to reuse what we have!

I also saved boxes for some stuff and manuals to make reselling easy. We sold the swing (sold our $100 swing for $50) and I've given away some clothes to people who needed them. I'm going to list and sell the bjorn and bouncy seat soon. I haven't sold the infant seat yet because I'm emotionally attached to it for some crazy reason. We're pretty much still using everything else.

For us, the most expensive things were the stroller and furniture. I will still have those if we decide to go for #2 and I can easily replace a swing and bouncy and a few other random things for under $300. Plus that will be years from now. DH and I agreed that each time we sell something of DS's we will put that money into his college account. It's not that much extra but it makes me feel good that the money from his stuff is going back to him.

  • We're keeping everything because we hope to start trying again sometime next year.  We have plenty of room to store stuff.

  • Well, not much, since #2 is on his/her way.  I have two swings but will wait to see which #2 prefers before getting rid of the other.  If #2 doesn't like the bouncy, I'll get rid of that too, since DD didn't like it either.   I have an exersaucer and a jumper and I don't need both, so I'll probably get rid of the exersaucer sooner rather than later, but I might keep it for awhile to have "stations" in which to put #2 in multiple locations.  We'll probably be getting rid of our snap n go frame since the double stroller we are buying can accommodate our infant seat.  That's really about it!
