Babies: 6 - 9 Months

What I just realized.

What in the heck am I going to do with my child in the mornings now that he can crawl??  DH leaves before me in the mornings so I am by myself.  When he was not crawling I would stick him on the floor in his room (next to the bathroom) with a toy and he would stay put.  This morning he crawled his little butt into the bathroom to come and see me.  I didn't think he crawling down that well yet, but I was proved wrong.  I would stick him in his crib but he has a new thing where he just wants to climb up everything!

And, before you flame me for leaving my child unattended while showering, I get a shower before he wakes up.  Big Smile

  • Get a walker, DD scoots all around while I am getting ready in the morning.  Its a lifesaver at our house.

  • Do you have the option of putting him in the PNP outside the bathroom door?

Thats what I do when I need to shower while Tooter Man is still awake.  I try to make it as quick as possible and if I hear him fussing, I'll pop my head out of the shower curtain and entertain him for a minute or two.

  • This is funny because I just told DH last night that it is really, really hard to get ready with Leighton home now that she is crawling!  She is not content to sit in her crib and look at the mobile like she used to..she wants to follow me around the house too!! I put some toys in the hallway right outside the bathroom for her to play with while I was fixing my hair...it worked...for about 10 minutes! LMAO...good luck, I don't really have any suggestions yet!  Just wanted you to know that I go through the same thing (DH leaves the house at 4:30 a.m.)

LOL!   We are like the same exact person.  Yeah, he will be interested in the toys for about 5 seconds but as soon as he sees me leave the room he has to follow his momma!

I wish I could do that, but our hallways are super tiny (we have an older house).

  • I use the jumperoo to keep her entertained while I finish getting ready.  I am considering getting a gate to put in her doorway that way she can play in the floor with her toys without me having to worry about her getting into trouble elsewhere.

  • I have a hard time with this, too.. sometimes I just have to let him cry for a couple minutes but I try to entertain him as well as I can.. sometimes you just have to get something done! I still put K in a bouncer when I shower sometimes, otherwise I took the suggestion I saw from others to put him in the tub while I shower, and he seems to like that. I know you're not asking about showering though.. I shower as night because I have to get up so early and DH works opposite hours from me, so we are on our own with DS all week long. Sometimes when I am in the bathroom, I'll put K on the floor with a toy- lately he loves his rubber ducky. So that's his special toy while he sits there waiting for me to brush my teeth, dry my hair, etc. Otherwise, maybe you could get a baby gate and put it in LO's bedroom doorway to keep him in there. I was going to suggest a jumperoo or stationary play thing.. but sounds like that wouldn't fit in your hallway.

I'm not sure what to do about this either. Usually I can shower & get ready before my daughter wakes up, but sometimes that doesn't work (like this morning). Today she was up at 5:20. I tried to put her back in her crib, but she started to cry right away. So I took her in the bathroom with me and put her in this little activity chair that I dragged in. That worked for awhile and then she got bored. So I took her out and set her on the bathroom floor with a toy. She pulled herself up on the toilet and then fell and bonked her head on the tile floor. It is so not easy to get ready on mornings like this. I don't know how to keep her contained, happy, and entertained. It doesn't help that she is kind of grumpy when she wakes up early and really would just like to be held.

  • I put DD in her doorway jumper.

I just get everything ready before she gets up. I shower the night before and I lay my clothes out while she's still sleeping (she usually sleeps until I wake her up at 7:45). I put on makeup, eat breakfast, fix my hair, and brush my teeth before I get her up.

On days she wakes up early, I'm kinda screwed. Stick out tongue We just do the best we can those days.

  • Could you put a gate up in the bathroom doorway?  Then LO can still see you but not actually be in the bathroom.
