Parenting after a Loss

Eat, sleep, poop, eat, sleep ...

My son is 5 days old ... All he does while he is awake is eat. When do they start staying awake for longer stretches? Now he wakes, cries through a diaper change, nurses & sleeps. He is really only content if there is a boob in his mouth

  • Ahhhh, I remember those days!  My LO was several weeks old before she would stay awake for more than an hour.

  • G was that way for about the first 2 months! There was very little awake time; lots and lots of sleep (which I thought was SO abnormal since DD had been the most colicky baby in the world and NEVER slept lol). Enjoy the quiet and snuggle time!

  • Those days seem like yesterday!! I think when she was a few weeks old she started staying awake longer to "play"
  • He'll probably be more alert in a few weeks.  For now, enjoy all the sleeping!
  • Give it a few weeks. I think by 3 wks N started to notice that I was actually there.

  • DS started to wake up around 4 weeks.  :)  I was looking through my early photos of him and he's asleep in just about EVERY picture for the first month!

  • Henry is over 3 weeks old now and yesterday he had his longest awake period, about 2.5 hours.  He did the exact same thing your son is doing when he was a week old.  Enjoy the time he is sleeping, try to take a nap during that time.  Remember that you need to rest so your body can heal itself.
