Babies: 6 - 9 Months

A slew of baby food questions

Ok, so we're about 2 weeks into baby foods, and I have some questions (to get some thoughts other than my parents' old-school thoughts).

1. When is it OK to mix foods together- what I mean is, if I know she's not allergic to carrots, and I know she's not allergic to apples (because she's had both), can I mix them to make carrapples? Or is that too much for her belly to handle?

2. The foods that I've been making are listed for 6-8 months, so at 8 months, do we move on to stage 2 foods?

3. Any suggestions on getting stains out of bibs? I'm not terribly bothered by them, but some of them are pretty bad.

4. Similar to #1 up there, if I am giving her a veggie that I know she's ok with, can I give her a different type of juice that I know she's ok with? I haven't even gone into the world of baby juices yet, so I have no idea what I'm getting into there.

5. I asked some questions the other day about baby yogurts- can anyone recommend a plain brand (as in, no fruits/veggies added)?

Thanks ladies... I definitely need some non-old-school advice!

    2. The foods that I've been making are listed for 6-8 months, so at 8 months, do we move on to stage 2 foods?  I believe so.

    3. Any suggestions on getting stains out of bibs? I'm not terribly bothered by them, but some of them are pretty bad.  I just started using oxyclean.  It's amazing.  We do BLW so it gets really messy.

    4. Similar to #1 up there, if I am giving her a veggie that I know she's ok with, can I give her a different type of juice that I know she's ok with? I haven't even gone into the world of baby juices yet, so I have no idea what I'm getting into there. No help here, I don't do juices, but I would imagine yes.

    5. I asked some questions the other day about baby yogurts- can anyone recommend a plain brand (as in, no fruits/veggies added)?  We use Yo baby.  They don't have plain, but we use vanilla.  And now we use banana because she's cleared banana.

Thanks ladies... I definitely need some non-old-school advice!

We started mixing just after a few weeks.  My pedi said if she does fine with them individually, then together should be fine, too.

    2. The foods that I've been making are listed for 6-8 months, so at 8 months, do we move on to stage 2 foods?

We got free reign on food choices after 6 months, just watch for allergies.  The only think to avoid are proteins - meat, cheese, egg, nuts.

    3. Any suggestions on getting stains out of bibs? I'm not terribly bothered by them, but some of them are pretty bad.

I use shout advaced.  It's a super concentrate in a blue bottle that works for set in stains.  I'll spray them before she goes to bed, and leave it until laundry day.  It says on there, the longer it sits, the better it works.  I've gotten plums out that had been washed and dried in.

    4. Similar to #1 up there, if I am giving her a veggie that I know she's ok with, can I give her a different type of juice that I know she's ok with? I haven't even gone into the world of baby juices yet, so I have no idea what I'm getting into there.

Yes, we did that with prunes/plums.  She was on prune juice for pooping issues, so we didn't need to do the 3 day wait on plums.  We're avoiding juices, though.  Too much sugar.

    5. I asked some questions the other day about baby yogurts- can anyone recommend a plain brand (as in, no fruits/veggies added)?

You can just buy adult full fat plain yogurt.  My husband likes Yoplait plain and Dannon plain.  It doesn't have to be for "babies."  It's a marketing gimic.  They're the same.

    5. I asked some questions the other day about baby yogurts- can anyone recommend a plain brand (as in, no fruits/veggies added)? I've heard of people using Greek yogurt...maybe try that.

You can mix them now. Also, if she has had apples but hasn't had, say, squash, you can mix the apple and the squash because you know if she has a reaction, it's to the new food.

    2. The foods that I've been making are listed for 6-8 months, so at 8 months, do we move on to stage 2 foods? That sounds about right. I started my DD at 4 months, and around 5.5 months I felt she was ready a stage 2 type texture. Now as I'm preparing so start adding finger foods, I've made her baby food really chunky.

    3. Any suggestions on getting stains out of bibs? I'm not terribly bothered by them, but some of them are pretty bad. I don't worry about stains on her bibs, most come out in the wash. But I've been successful getting stains out of almost anything with shout or oxyclean.

    4. Similar to #1 up there, if I am giving her a veggie that I know she's ok with, can I give her a different type of juice that I know she's ok with? I haven't even gone into the world of baby juices yet, so I have no idea what I'm getting into there. No advice - we haven't started juice.

    5. I asked some questions the other day about baby yogurts- can anyone recommend a plain brand (as in, no fruits/veggies added)? Our pedi recommended YoBaby. I think they have a plain version.

Thanks ladies... I definitely need some non-old-school advice!
