My friend has been looking for a place to get her car seat installed by a pro. She checked with the firefighters and they told her they don't do that anymore. She went to Miami Children's Hospital and they mentioned that they do the inspections every other Wednesday, but the lady with whom she has to make the appointment doesn't return her calls.
Any other ideas? I'd like to do this myself so I'm very curious to find out where this can be done.
Also, I had read on the Nurseries and Baby Gear Board that you shouldn't install a car seat mat underneath the car seat b/c it's not considered safe and could void the warranty. I passed this information along to her, but wanted to double check with my bumpies, too.
Re: car seat technician
When we did our child safety class at Mercy Hospital, it was taught by a lady who runs a store dedicated to child safety. It's located down south on US1, near the Falls I believe. She gave us a coupon for a free car seat check because they are certified to do it at their store. Without that coupon, I believe you have to pay a small fee (not sure how much). It's by appointment because you have to make sure that the person who is certified is working at the time that you want to go by.
Anyway, for the life of me I can't remember the name of the store
So unhelpful, I know. But maybe you can ask around and someone will know what it's called.
If anything you can call Mercy Hospital and ask them! Maybe they'll be able to give you the name of the store. I'm sure they have the lady's info there.
I remember with E, I was at Bellini and one of the person's that worked there actually checked car seat installations. I don't know if he has "certification," but it can't hurt to call and ask!

The lady from MCH actually called my friend today. Turns out she was just on vacation, lol. She has an appointment for this Saturday. I have her contact info now, but I'll keep the other recs in mind when it's my turn.
