f/u more diapers.com pricematch bs

I tested it out last night b/c I was thinking about ordering a bed rail.

the item was less that $49 and I found it on another website that had the same shipping policy (free over $49).  in either case I was going to order a few more items to bring my order up to the minimum (both websites carry the same type of items so I was going to be ordering the same things).

On top of the canned response that they will be phasing out the price matching they also added this:

Unfortunately, we are not able to honor this price match.  We have to take into consideration our competitor's shipping cost for each item individually.  Please feel free to contact our friendly Customer Care team by phone (toll-free, 1-800-342-7377) or by email (customercare@diapers.com) if you ever have any questions, comments or suggestions regarding our service.  We?re open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

... I wrote them back that I would not be placing an order because the other site was clearly a better deal and I did not anticipate being a continued diapers.com customer in the future if their prices continue to be higher and the customer service is slipping.

I got another response this morning that basically said that they are sorry, but I need to remember the added benefit of their 2 day shipping. blah blah blah.

...to me the 2 day shipping is not really an incentive - most items I order are not an immediate need so I would rather pay less and wait a few more days.

  • opps, forgot to include the second paragraph of their first email where they do the math and include shipping on the competitor's item and then don't do it on their own item, regardless of the fact that BOTH have free ship over $49:

"The Munchkin Deluxe Safety Bedrail  is 33.95 plus $8.95 for shipping at competitor's site.  While our price for the same item is $42.79.  Our price would be the better deal."

Fail: If you don't order more than $49 from diapers.com you would have to pay 4.99 in shipping = 47.78

  • boo!  i was looking forward to placing my first diapers.com order, but now, maybe not...  i'm glad you expressed your displeasure - hopefully they get a lot of negative comments about this change in policy.

i understand it's hard for them to phase out price-matching, and it must have been costing them too much money to support, but still Stick out tongue  and at the very least, they should be honest about the price comparisons, and not trying to mislead people!

  • I figured they had found a way to make up for the price matching, but I guess it's no longer profitable for them.  It's just completely disappointing to me.  Maybe if there would have been some notice, like with Bing, that they were going to be discontinuing the feature, then I wouldn't be as grumpy about it, lol

Wow, that sucks. I can't believe they didn't add in shipping for themselves when doing the comparison. It's like they were hoping you wouldn't notice or something! Well, I never bought from them before and I don't have any reason to start now =P

  • sorry, that sucks. i think you would have had better luck calling in, that seems to be the consensus from the other boards i'm reading
  • Aww that sucks! I'm sorry. I love their price matching, too bad they're getting rid of it.

yeah - I usually call.  This was just kind of a test, I probably would have ordered if it had been cheap but otherwise I was going to hold off and see if my aunt had an old one I could have (she said she might b/c she is hosting a multi family garage sale and she thought one of her friends brought one over...)
