Babies: 0 - 3 Months

I made it three weeks

breastfeeding.  My milk quality sucks and she wasn't getting the nutrition she needed.  Pedi said that I could keep going if I wanted, but after a lot of thinking and crying and frustration, I decided that it would be better for us if we went to a formula/bm mixture in bottles so that I know that she is actually getting enough.  I'm only going to pump about twice a day and just use the freezer stash I've made.

It has been a long three weeks.  I feel relieved to have finally made a decision.  I'm sure I'll have tons of formula questions for y'all soon!

  • I found the hardest part was making the decision to switch.  Good luck!

  • Hey, It was a hard decision for me to make too. I didn't want to quit BF but I needed to for other reasons. I felt so much better after I quit and got back to normal. I felt bad for her though because I really wanted to do it longer.

  • I had the same problem and decided to switch completely to formula.  I cried about it alot.  I have to say that my daughter is so much happier now... she's full and can sleep longer!  It was a tough decision, but it's what worked best for her!  Good luck!
  • So happy to hear I'm not the only one. I had problems with my supply so I had to supplement with formula and take a prescription to try and get more milk in (which hasn't seemed to work). While I was upset, it was even harder while I was nursing because DS was hardly getting anything, so he was nursing allll day. I'd much rather give him the formula if it means better days for both him and I. He's now sleeping for a good 5 hour chunk at night too! :) GL!
  • DS is only five days old and already I've had to supplement with formula. I've cried while I prepare it, and as I'm feeding him. I'm hoping he will get the hang of latching on soon.

This, definitely!  I'm also pumping and putting formula in with the breastmilk.  I made it two months, but man, was it ever a painful two months!  (For me it was bad latch,  despite seeing several LCs!)

  • I completely understand.  Its been a long 4 weeks for me.  I've had 5 lactation consultations, have spent about $400 on a new pump, sns, supplements, etc all to increase my supply and nothing has worked.  We decided to stop supplementing once we were told that DS wasnt gaining weight with BM alone.  It was such a hard decision.  I felt like a failure or something
