What bottle do you use for cereal?

LO has reflux and Dr. Brown's work best but here's what I'm thinking...  We have 4 oz bottles and I don't know how many oz's you mix cereal with but it can't go over 4oz's or they will leak. We also have Born Free bottles that go to 5-1/2 oz's so I might try them before buying the big Dr. Brown bottles. What bottles did you have the best luck with when you started putting cereal in them?  TIA

  • Have you tried feeding the cereal with a spoon?

  • We use the big Dr Browns in the wide neck size with the y-cut nipples. They work great. We also tried the drop ins with the medium flow nipples and that worked also.
  • Most of the time I feed him cereal on a spoon but occasionaly I will put it  in a bottle.  When I do I use Avent with the variable flow nipple they make designed for thicker liquids

We use Playtex Ventaire with the medium flow nipple.  We do 1 tsp of cereal per 2ozs of formula and it definately adds more volume to the bottle, so bigger bottles are a must.

  • I haven't tried feeding with a spoon, we actually haven't started cereal yet. We go for the 4mo appt tomorrow and I'm just thinking ahead in case doc says we can start it. I'm not sure how spoon feeding will go so I thought in the bottle might be a bit easier at first. We'll see. Should be fun!  Smile

The point of putting it in the bottle is to weigh the formula down a little, hopefully keeping it down in their tummies.  (for AR babies) So, the spoon idea is out of place here...

  • I'm a little late to the party but we use Born Free bottles with level 2 nipples.  They work like a charm!  When we mix the cereal and the formula and everything it usually comes out a little over 4 oz so the Born Free bottles would probably work best for you.
