Since LO was born, I've always only fed her on one side at each feeding and this has always worked well. Now in the past week or so, she pulls off the left side primarily (but has now started doing it on the right as well!) in just half as much time as it normally takes her to eat. Normally she eats about 20 minutes and she's pulling away and refusing to eat after just 10 mins or so. She flat out will not go back on but if I offer her the other breast then she's happy to continue eating. Is that okay? Can I "switch" to her eating on both breasts now? Will she get enough hind milk by doing this?
Ha. I guess a lot of women do feed both sides during a feeding though huh, so maybe not to worry? If you always have fed LO on 1 side, was there ever a time when you had to start feeding on both sides? Is this a way for them to get more milk?
Thanks!
Re: Anyne used to feed LO on 1 side, but now has to feed off both sides?
Yes, that has happened with me with both babies.
I think it's partially a sign of your baby nursing more efficiently, but also a sign that your supply has regulated and is more in line with LO's needs -- so she may need to get both sides now to fill up. I made a ton of milk at first, leaked, only needed to feed from one side, etc., but at around the three month mark with DD1, I definitely noticed that I wasn't overproducing anymore and DD1 needed both sides to really be full.
That happened closer to the two-month mark with DD2; I think my body just regulated faster. Sometimes she still only eats from one side, but more often she wants both.

I have been doing only one side at a time since DS was a week old. Every once in a while he will get frustrated after a while or if it has been a long time (like 30 minutes), I will offer the other side. When this happens he usually only eats from the second side for less than 10 minutes.
He has been acting the same way you described lately though (except after about 14-16 mins), but I just end the feeding. He seems content so I figure he has gotten enough. I was also under the impression that both mother and LO get more efficient after a few months, so I haven't worried about forcing him to keep going.
