Traveling and still pooping their pants....

DS has been successfully PEE trained! YAY! We did the 3-day three wks ago, and it's been grand.
The poop? Notsomuch. He only goes in his undies (or a pull-up) and is veeery scared to try on the potty. I've sort of raised my white flag with this, bc the more I stress/encourage him, the more he resists. So. I am not worrying.. he'll get it someday.
The issue is TRAVEL/vacationing. We want to go somehere in a few mts, but would you not travel if DC was still crapping their pants?? It's a chore to clean him/clean out the undies at home, so elsewhere (or on a plane, GOD help us) would be twice as hard.
Plus, he only will use a small potty - has used a big one in public a few times (we bought the thing he sits on to make the hole smaller) - but you think he'd regress is we traveled?

DD is also just pee trained. Since we bought something like 30 pairs of undies for the Method and she only poops 1x a day and sometimes even skips a day, I'd be inclined to consider any undies she poops in as trash while traveling. No need to go thru that hell on a plane. Just throw those out and clean his bum per usual.
For the plane ride I'd also consider possibly cotton training pants over the regular undies to help keep the poo in and not get on thier clothes.
Actually, being on vacay was what got DS to finally poop on the potty! It's also what sparked him to stay dry overnight too. I think being out of the comforts of home made him more aware of his body and more afraid of accidents. Since we've returned, he's gotten better and better about pooping on the potty, doing it almost every time now. And the same as you, the more emphasis I put on it the more resistant he was. So I just let it go and whatdayaknow he started doing it on his own.
DS has never been specific about which potty he uses. He'll use his frog potty, or a potty ring, and does just fine on a big potty too in public. You might want to consider something like this for travel if you don't think your DS will use the big toilet with a ring. It packs up small, but then you can just use it wherever you stay as a little potty. If you're driving, I'd take whichever potty he uses. But if you're flying the ring or travel potty would be a much more feasible option.
Also, DS likes to poop in private. Once we realized that things were much easier. I'll get him on the potty and leave, closing the door. Then he'll call me when he's done to wipe him. Now that he realizes I will do that for him, he's much more willing to go.
I have no real tricks or ideas for you
Yesterday was the first time she didn't just poop right in her undies right out in the LR though so maybe we're getting somewhere? She actually went into the bathroom to do her business and I knew she had to go so I tried giving her some privacy. I think that helped her at least do it in the right place. She did call for me when she was done and I praised her for going at all and in the bathroom. I also had her watch me flush it and have her say bye to it (lol) because she loves doing that when she pees. Let's hope it helped desensitize her just a little bit more to the whole process......
Here's the gross part and the *possible* idea......I knew she had to go so I had her go undie-free. I figured, again, gross as heck, but if she were able to see it fall on the ground (like her urine) she'd get the hint. I don't know if htat's what helped her at least go to the bathroom to do it but I'm happy with that progress. I did give her a cookie, too. I haven't given any extrinsic rewards for potty stuff yet but for pooping I am willing to break my own rule lol.
