Babies: 3 - 6 Months

Deswaddling with Magic SleepSuit not going so well :-(

I've had the MSS since last Thursday night. DD has been going through her 4 month wakeful (early) and was really fighting the swaddle through the night, so I decided maybe she was telling me she was ready to ditch it. I bought the MSS in hopes that it would help the transition be easier. But so far, it's a no go. She barely fits the weight to start (it says 12-18 lbs, she's barely 12), so it's not that snug on her. She can easily move her arms & legs around and I'm noticing that it's not really keeping her arms from flailing as much as I'd hoped. She's still waking every 1-2 hours at night and only taking 45 minute naps. Does anyone have any tips or advice (or encouragement for that matter!) for me? This has been going on for a month now and I'm absolutely exhausted.

Re: Deswaddling with Magic SleepSuit not going so well :-(

  • We're going thru the transition ourselves right now.. but straight to the sleep sak, cold turkey. First two nights went fantastic-- only got up one extra time - but it's all gone to hell in the last two nights. He's got a stuffy nose, so I'm hoping that has something to do with it - but who knows.

Basically, just writing to say I sympathize. I'm going to stick with it at least through this week to see if he finally gets used to it.

We use the MSS as well and its not really supposed to fit snug.  DD is 15 lbs now and still has room to move.  Is your DD sleeping in her crib?  What are you doing when she wakes in the middle of the night?  We have a video monitor and DD arms don't move that much but she still kicks her legs up in the air.  Do you let her cry at all?  I don't mean CIO, I just mean fuss a bit before going to her?

I would stick with it...if she is going through the 4 month wakeful then there may be nothing you can do other than ride it out.   What swaddle were you using?  Did you try swaddling with one arm out or both arms out?

  • Maybe she doesn't like it.  Have you tried just putting her down without anything other than jammies?

She's in the RnP at night and her crib for naps. At night I usually just try and put her paci back in. I'll feed her if its past 3 or 4. At night I don't let her fuss too much so as not to wake DH, but during the day I do.

We were double swaddling with a blanket and then a SwaddleMe on top. I did try one arm out a few times, but she just wouldn't go to sleep that way.

No haven't tried that. Was too scared too! But I guess I can't get any less sleep than I'm getting now. I got more when she was a newborn!

  • So you're putting her in the RnP in her MSS?   I tried that and DD didn't seem comfortable at all.  It was way too big for the RnP and she couldn't get comfortable.  Maybe try putting her in her crib at night?  Can't hurt to try I suppose!

Yes, that's what I have been doing. Right now I've got her just laying in the crib unswaddled and she keeps rolling on her tummy and making herself really upset. I feel awful!

I would put her in the crib at nights, but she's getting up so frequently that I don't want to have to walk all the way to the other end of the house every hour. Maybe that makes me lazy. :-/
