Vag delivery, 2+ mommas

How long did you push with your first compared to the second+?  I pushed with DS for 1.5 hours and I am hoping it is faster this time around.

  • I am curious to see other's responses!! I hear the second one is usually faster which has me worried.  I only pushed for 20 minutes with DD! The doctor barely made it in time, just enough time to put on her gloves and grab DD.
  • Twenty minutes with #1, three minutes with #2.
  • 45 min for #1

    22 min for #2

  • 3.5 hours with #1, and less than 5 minutes with #2.  I do wonder what a third one would do, lol.
  • #1 - 2 hours

    #2 - 2 pushes

I'm worried this one is just going to slide out.  lol

ETA - I had an epi with #1 and couldn't feel what I was doing.  That is why it took so long.  I didn't have anything with #2.  Plus, #1's head was the size of a beach ball and #2 had a little pin head.

  • You all give me hope!  I pushed for almost 4 hours with DS - praying this one goes a little faster.
  • Wow - this gives me hope too!  I pushed for about an hour with DD and had no idea what to expect with this one - hoping for less pushing time! :)
  • #1 pushed through like 3 contractions, less than 30 minutes

#2 can't remember for sure but it wasn't much longer than my first (had an epi with her but not my first)

    #3 1 long steady push

  • 1st - 30 min

2nd - 20 min - the Dr said it would have been a lot quicker if the cord wasn't wrapped around her neck and body.

  • Yeah, this gives me hope.  1 hour 45 minutes with ds after 38 hours of labor.  It has to go faster this time...lol.
  • #1- about 1.5 hours

#2- maybe 20 minutes if not less

I had an epi for both.

  • 15 mins, 3 mins, 1 contraction.

  • 1.5 hrs
    10 minutes (abt 8 pushes)

  • 3 hrs with the first and no time for the second; he was delivered by breech extraction. ;)
1.5 hrs is not bad but I hope it does go faster for you the next time!

I think the epi really slowed me down, too. We hope to have one more so I am hoping that one will come out a LOT faster! (And this time I will ask them to turn the epi down for pushing if necessary; I didn't have the presence of mind to do that last time.)

I know. Three minutes, three pushes. I probably could have had him out in two, but my doctor made me stop so that she could unwind the cord from his neck.

  • DD#1- 34 minutes.

    Twin A- 10 minutes

Twin B went transverse when DD#2 came out, so 45 minutes with him!

  • I feel like I am going to have an accidental home birth. I walked in the hospital ready to push with #1, pushed for under 10 minutes. I am wondering what 2 will be like Crying

DD #1 passed away in January 2011 at 14 days old due to congenital heart disease
DD#2 lost in January 2012 at 23 weeks due to anhydramnios caused by a placental abruption
  • 1 hour with #1. 2 contractions #2. She came out butt first and I went from    8 cm to giving birth in 15 mintues, so I'm guessing it would have been even faster (eeek!) if she would have come out head first.

  • 1 hour with #1. 1 contraction #2 but that also includes pushing without a contraction since she came out butt first. I went from 8 cm to giving birth in 15 mintues, so I'm guessing it would have been even faster (eeek!) if she would have come out head first.

  • A little over 1.5 hours with DD1.

23 minutes with DD2. And that was including a short shoulder dystocia. I felt like she flew out.

Was he positioned weird? Try to fix it BEFORE labor if this one is. My first was over three days and my second was over a day and a half. Stick out tongue Once we got her into position at the end it went so fast. It literally took less than an hour from her flipping to baby.

  • 2 hours for #1

    20 minutes for #2

  • 2 hours for #1

3 pushes (maybe 90 seconds total?) for #2.

epidural and 18 hour labor with #1 (8lbs 10 oz), no pain meds and 4 hour total labor with #2 (7 lb 2 oz).

My second wasn't any faster! I pushed for 1.5 hrs for both!
  • I had 4, full-term +  vaginal births.  With each consecutive delivery, the pushing phase got easier & faster, with the exception of #4, who was crooked (and a VERY large boy at 9lbs, 9oz).

  • I have 3 kiddos and labor got shorter with each one but I did push longer with my second (DS) He was bigger (8 lbs) than both my girls so I think that's why.  But labor itself was shorter than my first.

First Child (DD) - 8 hours of Labor about 5-8 pushes.

    Second Child (DS) - 6 hours of Labor about10 - 12 pushes.

    Third Child (DD#2) - 4 hours of Labor - exactly 2 pushes.
