I'm doing really well with a low carb diet, I've lost 9 lbs this week! I want to keep it up. I've done this before, but I used a lot of fake sugars last time and I really don't want to go that route this time, I want to eat real food. So, I'm just looking for some suggestions for when I go to the store today. What are some of your favorites? Any suggestions for a new fruit or veggie to try?

Re: Low Carb Ladies - Looking for some suggestions
Ok. The Bump is pissing me off today. I just typed out an entire response and got an error message. Anyway. What are you doing exactly diet-wise? I ask because I am also on a low carb diet, but have come nowhere near the 9 pounds you have lost! Of course I am cheating a lot which does not help.
Back in 2005 I lost about 40 lbs on a low carb diet and most did beef/chicken and salads. I don't have much of a sweet tooth but when I did crave something sweet, I ate peanut butter and Atkins bars - they have some low carb Atkins candy which is pretty good.
And I'm not sure but isn't Stevia a natural sugar that is similar to Splenda? You would have to research that.
The bump is driving me crazy too. First of all, I have a ton of weight to lose, 100lbs+, so it's going to come off faster for me than for someone who has 20-30lbs to lose. I'm going as low carb as possible, with the exception of a piece of fruit every other day or so. I'm not using any low carb products, just whole foods that I cook from scratch. I have "cheated" a couple of times. When I have gone out to eat, I have eaten whatever I want including the dinner roll. I've I'm going to spend the money to go out, I'm going to enjoy it, but it's not a free pass for the rest of the day.

Hi Kristy,
I also have a ways to go on my weight (100+ lbs), and need to really watch my sugars. So, low carb it is!
I've been spending a little more money to get things that are already prepared for me, mostly because I know I will cheat if I don't feel like making an effort.
I buy pre-cut veggies, string cheese and those little pre-packed cheddar squares. The easier it is for me to grab something, the better I do at staying on track. And jerky.... Thank heaven for jerky.
When I have fruit, I usually have berries. They are my favorite anyway, and they are lower glycemic load.
The one thing I am doing is Diet Coke. I am a soda junkie, so it's been a challenge to give that up. But really cold, canned or fountain Diet Coke does the trick!
Anyway, if I find anything else, I will let you know.
Thanks for the info. I have 10 lbs. of pregnancy weight to lose, and then to get back to my ideal weight, about 10 more (ultimate goal is 135 but a more realistic goal is 140). I know that the less you have to lose the harder it is to get it off. I think exercise will do it for me but honestly I have no motivation, and between work and taking care of DS the only time I could do anything would be at 5:00 a.m. I guess I need to stop whining and just do it already.
We should have a low-carb check in along with the late loss check in...what do you think? It's so much easier to keep at it when there is accountability, you know?
- almonds or macadamias are the best low carb uts
- use cucumbers like crackers and top w/ cheese and pepperoni
- roasted kale chips w/ olive oil - yum!
my low-carb go to snacks are:
-carrot and celery (or other veg) w/hummus.
-piece of pepperoni w/cheese on top (no cracker)
-nuts of anysort
-fruit (yes, sugar and carb - but in moderation helps the sweet tooth).
-piece of sugar free hard candy
-no sugar added fudgsicle or pudding cup
Great job ladies! keep it up! I'm working on this again too!
