We live on the east side of Cleveland and are due with our first child on March 3rd Wondering if any of you living on the east-side are due around the same time? It might be fun to meet up and follow eachother's progress! Let me know!
I did deliver at Hillcrest. I saw the midwives leading up to that becauase Dr. Ross, my OB, stopped doing OB to focus on GYN.
My experience leading up to the birth was great. Then I was in labor for 10 hours before someone figured out the baby was breech and at that point there wasn't any option but to do a c-section. The baby's position ended up causing her hip to be dislocated at birth, which, again, I think could have been avoided if someone had realized she was breech. Every week the midwife would comment that she could feel the head, when in reality she could feel the butt - and that shouldn't be difficult to see a difference.
That being said, I'm considering staying with Hillcrest for any future babies and using a doctor instead of the midwives.
My OB is Barry Peskin and I really like him! However, I did not have the best experience at Hillcrest. Several of the nurses were absolutely wonderful but I also had a few that were terrible. I had a c-section (unplanned) and really after the first night, the nurses were horrible. They rarely came to check on me, the never came to get me up out of bed or tell me to get up and walk around on my own...I finally had to ask an aide to show me how to go to the bathroom! Then at one point, I was feeling lightheaded while lying in bed...I called the nurse and she told me to raise the incline on my bed and that was it. She never came in to check me or my blood pressure or to see if I was even alive! And I was induced b/c of high blood pressure!
They never asked me if I had any questions about my baby, didn't show me how to swaddle, etc. Maybe I just had a bad shift of nurses...I know other people that really like Hillcrest. I'm not sure yet what we'll do if we have another one....
BTW, the picture people will try and get you to have your baby's picture taken before you leave the hospital and you literally have to decide which images and which package you want right then & there. We felt so much pressure that we ended up just buying a package that was way too much $$ and the pictures were not good either. I ended up returning them and getting most of my $$ back. Don't fall for the same trick!!
joining in late I am an eastsider too- but not pregnant. I live in University Heights as well. Dr McElroy (same practice as Dr Rao) delivered my 2nd baby at hillcrest. Great experience. Congrats to all you new mommies and mommies to be!
