Our pedi mentioned this at H's 12 month check-up. It never occurred to me that I could try Crayons with him this early. Does your baby use them? Just wondering if it's even worth a shot right now.
EDIT: Okay, he's now 15 months old, but when he was 12-13 months he still loved it, couldn't color as we know it, but could hit the paper with the crayon in a pounding motion. hehe, it worked though, and he liked seeing that he was able to make something happen
when ds was about 12 months he liked crayons sometimes. like the pp he mainly pounded the sheet, but they didn't hold his attention for long. he's usually try to eat them too.

I gave DD crayons at Friendly's Restaurant the other day. She had a hard time b/c those crayons are so crappy and waxy. If she had real crayola she would have had a good time.
I am so excited! I loved to color when I was little.
At that age she was more interested in eating them, but she would "color" for a short time, then put it in her mouth, and repeat. Now she's pretty good, she still will put them in her mouth but I just keep showing her how we color.
Yep but she uses markers and highlighters more. She tries to eat the crayons but for some reason she doesn't try and eat the markers. Plus it is easier for her to make marks on the paper so she gets excited. I just make sure she uses washable ones or has no clothes on.
DD just turned 14 mos but I tried giving her a crayon a couple weeks ago and she immediately tried putting it in her mouth. At BRU, I found some toddler-friendly paints and stamps that are round-shaped and easy for them to grip. The age recommendation was for 18 mos but I plan to let her use them a little sooner. I would love to get her exposed to creating art!
DS likes to eat them. But when hes not eating them he hold them and trys to color but his knuckles hit the paper and not the crayon.. I dont know how else to explain it. the crayon hangs out of his hands past the thumb and pinky finger but he trys to do it with his fist down and so the crayon doesnt hit the paper.
Re: Does your 12-13 month old use Crayons yet?
Yes... he's very good at it.

I'd give it a try and see what he does.
