Hey guys its Tya!!! YAY I recognize so many names! Not sure if you guys remember me.. but was on the knottie a while ago for my 2009 wedding.. then I kinda skipped the nest and now I'm back to being obsessive with the boards again as we are staring to plan for a future bump!!! YAY!
Grant and I think we're going to try and start in the next couple of months. And I have all these questions and feel so unprepared... so I thought I would just dive in and immerse myself in the life on the boards.
Was wondering how you guys prepared for trying? did you go to the doctor? did you get blood work? did you take prenatals? change diet?
Pour the advice on. I'm so excited that after a year and a half the new stage in life is approaching!
Re: Hi Ladies!!!
PS. I can't believe all the knotties I was planning with before have BABIES!! SUCH CUTIE SCRUMPTOUS BABIES!! it feels like I just got done with the wedding and adjusting to married life. I feel behind!!!!
REDSHOE-TWINS!?!?! squuueeeeeeee
Hey Tya! Of course I remember you...I made many plans to dognap Titus if I ever had the chance.
Congrats on planning to TTC! I didn't do all that much preparation - I saw my doctor since I had to get my implant removed, but no blood work etc (she did check that my vaccinations and pap smear were up to date, which they were). Other than that, I took prenatals and charted. Charting isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I'm obsessive like that lol, and I learned a lot about fertility - even if you're not planning on charting, I highly recommend reading the online tutorials at Fertility Friend, which are super informative and helpful (you can just ignore the bits about temperature taking, etc.).
LOL tell me about it! It was the shock of the century!
Welcome to the board, Tya! It's great to see you here!
We didn't do anything to prepare for TTC. I never really figured out how to chart because I was too lazy for it, so MH and I decided to just try TTC the old-fashioned way and see how it goes. By the end of the first month, we were pregnant!
After that, I wished we prepared more. I only have two recommendations though. The first is to take prenatals (although I didn't start until way after I was pg and baby is still very healthy), including a DHA supplement, but don't invest too much in the ones with fish oil until you see if you have any m/s or not. Mine was super bad and I'm only taking the prenatal w/fish oil DHA that I bought earlier now that I'm BFing because I couldn't keep it down while I was pg (I had m/s the whole time until after I delivered). I didn't change my diet (aka no more sushi, foie gras, etc) until after I got pg and I thought that was just fine
The second recommendation I have is to go to your OB and get a blood test done. I forgot everything that they checked for, but for me, I wasn't immune to Rubella and it would've been really dangerous if I had gotten Rubella when pg--and you can't get the vaccine or treat it when you're pg, so it's really problematic. So I wished I had gotten it checked beforehand, so I would've gotten the vaccine BEFORE I got pg. Of course, Rubella isn't super common these days so I was okay throughout the pregnancy, but my OB told me to try to avoid kids since they usually are the ones who get it, so I tried to be careful for the most part. I ended up getting the vaccine after I delivered my baby to protect future pgs. The only thing with the vaccine also is you can't get pg within 3 months of receiving it b/c it's dangerous to the fetus. Of course, I wasn't planning on getting pg so soon again anyway, so that was okay...

Hi Tya!
Great to see you here!
. I have exercised regularly prior to TTC so I did not have to change my routine when I got pg (now that i am a bit further along, I have tapered my workouts down a bit). I personally believe this helped me have an easy pregnancy so far.
Prior to TTC, I went to my general doctor to talk abotu TTC. Like inamra said, she made sure I already got all the vaccines needed and advised me to start taking prenatals. I read Taking Charge of Your Fertility as advised by many ladies on this board. I learned a lot about my body and made me be more aware of the changes going on in my body each month. I attempted to chart but realized later that I already conceived by the time I started charting

Hello! I remember you... Another Amsale bride, right? :-)
Everyone has already said everything I was going to say...
-- Start taking prenatals now!! I like the CVS brand, personally. :-)
-- Read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" if you want to learn more about how it all works beyond the obvious
-- Check out FertilityFriend.com if you have any interest in charting
I charted for 3 months and was PG by the 3rd month. What I learned from charting that I would NOT have known is that I ovulate on days 16-18 and NOT day 14, which is what everything you read says is considered normal. Also, I think charting helped us get PG sooner than if we were just going with the flow.

Hi Tya!
Great to "see" you here...
Being older and TTC (I turned 34 and the baby rabies hit full on) we decided in Dec 2008 that we'd TTC in the Spring of 2009. I went off the pill, started taking prenatal vitamins, read Taking Charge of Your Fertility, signed up at FertilityFriend.com, and started charting. I also went on a diet and lost about 25 lbs. in three months. We were going to wait until June to officially begin TTC but started in March! LOL!
Two cycles later I had my BFP! I charted two cycles and then had two more TTC while also using a ClearBlue Easy Fertility Monitor (love that thing!) and I really think that helped us time everything in order to get PG. Oh, I also had a pre-conception visit with my OB/GYN in Feb 2009 and then our first PG visit with her to confirm the PG at 5 weeks and then the first ultrasound, etc. at 7.5 weeks. Libby's nearly 6 months old now! It's hard to believe that this time last year I was just in my second tri...it goes FAST! I blogged my TTC and PG journey at www.pregosaur.com if you want to read about it..my posts are here:

Good luck on your journey...we're here to cheer you on! Yay for more HI babies!

Do take it all in stride and TRY to have fun with it. We did chart and like Tara said I became obsessed. It was hard not to after 6 months of charting and having tons of $ex and nothing! At month 6 we started a fertility workup with my OB just to be sure that things were ok with both of us. 2 months later, we got our BFP!
The other thing, so many people get pregnant right away but there are some that don't. I would suggest making your mind up and remember that it can take awhile. I was one who thought it would happen right away and then it didn't... I became frustrated and discouraged. Once I chilled out a bit and let my mind take a break from stressing about it, I felt better about the whole process. Good luck!
Hi, Tya!
Pretty much exactly like everyone else said, I saw my doctor a few months before TTC. I started prenatal vitamins, and got a DTP booster, since I hadn't had one since high school.
We tried for 4 months with just having fun and using OPKs a little bit. Then we stepped it up and I read "Taking Charge of Your Fertility" and starting charting in the 5th month. Charting worked for us right away! I recommend reading the book, even if you don't plan on charting.

good luck, congrats on this next step.
Everyone else had great advice. I highly recommend Taking Charge of your Fertility just because it's always a good thing to know that much about your body.
