Moms of boys ...

Question for you ... did your little guy pee out of his diaper a lot when he was little? I know to point his "tail" as my niece calls it down, but are there any other tricks? I seem to get peed on while holding him almost daily. We just had his circ. done last week so I can't really point it down with the gauze on it so I'm wondering if thats the main problem.

Any advice? Thanks!

Re: Moms of boys ...

  • It's a boy thing.  I was never quick enough no matter what direction it was pointing and got peed on daily basis (sometimes multiple times a day).  Someone then gave me the tee-pee pee pees and as funny as they are, they kept him from peeing on me!  It does get better as they get older.  I think it has been 2 months since the last time.  I'm not sure if I'm getting faster at diapering or he can control his urges a little bit more.

  • Moms of boys have told me to have a burp cloth at the diaper station specifically for covering during diaper changes to reduce the chance of stray peeing.  Or just use a diaper that you keep specifically for that purpose.  It might be cheaper than the tee pee things which I've seen at BRU and Buy Buy Baby (not to mention online).  Its one thing I'm not looking forward to when changing a little boy when the time comes.
  • What diapers are you using? Are you not putting his diaper on tight because of the circ?

We use the newborn pampers swaddlers. I was kind of wondering if maybe its not tight enough but I feel like i put it on pretty snug. I'm thinking its a directional thing.

  • Yeah you have to point it down.
  • we had leaks a few times at the begining, but i think becuz of the circ, it always wanted to stay in the up pointing position. now that he's all healed it seems to stay in the down pointing position.

  • try checking the inside elastic of the diaper.  I found sometimes that it was folded under and that caused some leakage.
  • We kept a washcloth where we changed Gavin to cover him up during changes.
  • oh, nevermind! i misunderstood your question....no, we never had that problem when G was little.  Sorry!
  • As PP mentioned the "tail" needs to point down. Also for Sam it really helps when you unfold all of the elastics at the legs, Pampers have 2 sets of elastics, try to have the inside ones covering his butt and then the outside ones fitting snug around his legs.
