So Mar's been in MDO for six weeks or so now and I never did get a new bag or lunchbox for her. Which is good, because I know what we need now. And we need a backpack because there's no way to carry a baby, a bag and a toddler in the rain without losing a tote bag off my shoulder. It also needs to be big enough to hold her lunchbox, because again, I won't be able have a free hand to carry a lunch box and two kids.
Would you get (or do you have) a backpack that's small enough for your child to carry or do you have more of an adult sized backpack?
I like the Land's End TinyTakes but I don't know if it will be big enough to hold her lunch too
Re: Backpack question
I just bought a super cute backpack and lunch box at Old Navy. The lunch bag clicks into little locks on the outside of the backpack to hold them together. It's super cute... and I don't have to worry about dropping the lunch box...

addie has one from land's end aimed at that age, so i'm assuming it's the same size (I don't remember what it was called). It holds her soft land's end lunhbox and the lunchbox also has the clip to attach it to the backback.
both were on clearence so i can't find them on the site now.
Truitt has the small size Dante Biatrix backpack. I got it at Purple Mango. It washes so well in the machine, Mathis will be using it for MDO this year too (Tru upgraded to a bigger one for PreK)
It holds his lunchbox but not much else. Before he was potty trained, I just left a full pack of diapers at school in his cubby.
E has a lunchbox that is a backpack shape. I got it at Walmart last year at back-to-school time and I shortened the straps so she could wear it.
And she did wear it... to play around the house. Carry it into school? Never. So I vote for getting one that is adult sized.
I carried baby in sling or ergo, help DD's hand and carried her tote bag (with backpack lunchbag stuffed inside) in the other hand. In the rain I carried DD on my left hip, tote bag and umbrella in my right arm/hand.
We use the small one provided by his school right now.
Next year, because this one is all branded with his current school, we'll have a new junior sized one. It is a few inches taller than this one.
He wouldn't carry it himself until a couple of months ago. Annoying. It fits him and he'll carry it now.
My husband carries two of the small back packs, a cooler pack for bottles, a baby, and holds Lucas's hand. So, I think you could get by with a small pack - if she'll carry it, you're home free!
