Embarrassing to ask!

I am about 6 weeks now.  I am constipated.  I have tried eating high fiber foods and it is not helping me at all.  Any suggestions???

  • Try Collace, it took a high dosage for me to have some effect, but it's worth a try. Though it's so expensive!!!!

    Keep up with the fiber, good luck!

  • The generic of colace is called docusate. That will be cheaper.
  • Metemucil was my friend during pregnancy :)
  • Make sure you are drinking enough water.  Eating a lot of fiber and not drinking enough water can cause constipation.

  • Benefiber powder (follow the directions). I've been taking it every day since the beginning of this preg.

  • Watermelon did the trick for me during the 1st trimester.
  • A cup of coffee will always do the trick for me in the short term, but to prevent it, drinking plenty of water and having lots of fruit for snacks has kept me problem free for my pregnancy so far. Knock on wood!

  • Try putting some psylium in your beverage.

  • Embarrassing? It's going to get a lot more embarrassing than this (sorry). But I say Colace, and if your doc will let you, Miralax is awesome. (I don't think mine did.)

     

  • Try prunes and fiber one bars and cereals...pears and lots of water should help.

  • You have to eat a high fiber diet combined with lots and lots of water.  If you aren't consuming enough water, the fiber kinda does the opposite effect.  TMI, but your stool will become too hard w/o water and you won't be able to go.  So drink lots of water (like 100 oz a day for pregnant women) and good luck! :-) 

    p.s. I haven't had any constipation throughout my entire pregnancy and I'm 36 weeks.  :-)
