A cup of coffee will always do the trick for me in the short term, but to prevent it, drinking plenty of water and having lots of fruit for snacks has kept me problem free for my pregnancy so far. Knock on wood!

Embarrassing? It's going to get a lot more embarrassing than this (sorry). But I say Colace, and if your doc will let you, Miralax is awesome. (I don't think mine did.)
You have to eat a high fiber diet combined with lots and lots of water. If you aren't consuming enough water, the fiber kinda does the opposite effect. TMI, but your stool will become too hard w/o water and you won't be able to go. So drink lots of water (like 100 oz a day for pregnant women) and good luck! :-)
p.s. I haven't had any constipation throughout my entire pregnancy and I'm 36 weeks. :-)
PPD/PPA Mom...it has been super hard, but I'm making it! Slow steps... Mom to Carter (6), and Calianne (1). Proud VBAC, natural birth, breastfeeding, cloth diapering momma!
Re: Embarrassing to ask!
Try Collace, it took a high dosage for me to have some effect, but it's worth a try. Though it's so expensive!!!!
Keep up with the fiber, good luck!
Try putting some psylium in your beverage.
