gatorade

this may be a stupid questions but is it okay to drink gatorade during pregnancy?

Re: gatorade

  • I'm dying to hear a reason why it shouldn't be.

  • I have never heard that it is bad for you and in fact my labor and delivery class was told to bring some to the hospital with them when they go into labor because it keeps you hydrated. Also it has not done any harm to me or my LO during my pregnancy, I have always been a big drinker of it. Of course everyone is different and things affect everybody differently but I seen no harm in it.
  • I hope so because I was drinking some during first tri.  It really helped with the nausea.  But I didn't drink a ton, it is still a lot of sugar.  In moderation I was say go for it.
  • okay i didnt think it was but i was reading some website i cant remember and i said if you drink it only drink a lil at a time but add water to it...sooo i was kinda skeptical

  • Yes, my Dr. actually recommended some to stay hydrated, as well as lots of water.

  • You do need to watch the sodium/salt in it though if BP is of concern. Water is best, but I do sometimes down gatorade too.

It's fine to drink. My doctor had me drinking it last week because I was dehydrated.

  • I have been drinking it when I need a taste other than water.
  • Last week my Dr. told me to start drinking it b/c I have low blood pressure.
  • Plenty of sugar, but not bad for you per se. The added benefit of course is the electrolytes, etc. I drank it occasionally in 1st tri when I was feeling dehydrated, and I usually drink it before/after blood draws (except the glucose one) since I'm prone to passing out and getting lightheaded. I've also heard it recommended for L&D, as someone else said. Also for postpartum because you're sweating up a storm as your body tries to get rid of all the extra fluid.

  • i was encouraged to drink it but the only advice i have is if your not that active watch how much you take in because it does have alot of sugar. Id say stick with the reduced sugar types like zeros or whatever the Gatorade version is it replenishes when ur dehydrated but isnt as much in calories
  • I sure hope so! (And I don't see why not)

I have been drinking G2 (the reduced sugar kind) just about every day with my lunch in place of the coke I would usually have.

  • Coconut water has electrolytes, and you can get plain water with electrolytes (Whole Foods has a store brand with it). The only reason I wouldn't drink Gatorade is because of all the sugar in it.

My OB told me to drink the G2 Gatorade instead of the regular Gatorade, but that's because of the sugar content in the regular Gatorade. Other than that, I don't see a big deal with drinking Gatorade while pregnant.
  • Yes, it's okay. I asked my Dr about it. Sometimes it really helps to take the dizzy feeling away. I treat it the same way as a can of pop. Once in awhile won't hurt.

  • I've been drinking it for the past month because I've been very dehydrated and water wasn't doing the trick.  I never even thought to question it as something that is bad for you during pregnancy.

I think diluting it is to lessen the sugar content. My midwife has advise to dilute all juices just for that reason.

  • Its fine but to a point for some people! I was having it all the time because I was trying to push liquids and I was only able to stand so much water...

problem was it is high in sodium and I was putting on lots of water weight. My doctor told me to turn it down and drink things without added sodium. They did say its good to bring for labor though.
