Dh is applying for a position at a college there (I think it's in the NW corner of Lancaster). Tell me about the area. The schools. Public okay? Or private a must? What do you love? What do you dislike? Tell me about downtown. What's your fave thing to do with LOs in the area? Many parks?
Re: Lancaster Mommas
Lancaster General and Hershey would be the two closest hospitals both are good but Lancaster General might be hard to get into right now as and RN they just layed off all the lpn's and I heard they are only looking for part time and on call rn's. I work at Hershey and I know they are always looking for rn's for the ER and 2nd and 3rd shift for some of the units. I don't really know what they pay RN's since I work on the administrative end. I also don't know much about the schools.
Let's discuss my love of Lancaster. I don't live in the city, but I have always lived in Lancaster County. I don't recommend sending your kids to School District of Lancaster, but most other schools in the county are GREAT if you live outside the city... Manheim Township is excellent, but here's a great website to check out...

They rate all PA schools. Other schools in the area are Lampeter-Strasburg (My alma-mater!), Conestoga Valley, Solanco, Manheim Central, Warwick...
MT and L-S pretty much stretch to the city, so you can live on the outskirts and still be in their districts instead of SDL.
We live in Lititz, but it's only a 4 mile drive down 501 into the city. I LOVE the Lancaster Barnstormers---it's cheap entertainment for a family. Long's Park is amazing, and they have summer concerts there frequently. There is lots of shopping, many restaurants, and the city has a good selection of non-chains. Dutch Wonderland is a MUST for young kids. My sister has 2 kids and they get season passes to DW... It's $99 or something like that (basically 3 admissions worth), but they will go at least once a week in the evenings when the tourists have gone home.
Lancaster's a great place!
The two hospitals in Lancaster are Lancaster General (LGH) and Lancaster Regional. Both would be pretty close to your husband's job. LGH recently had some redeployment of workers internally, so it could be a little tough to break in from the outside right now (they are finding new positions for inside people), however if you are a critical care RN you probably have an advantage with special training and experience to be able to work in the ICU that would make it worth applying. I don't know much about Regional. There is also Heart of Lancaster out in Lititz. The nearest university hospital is Hershey Med.

LGH is definitely the largest provider in the area by far - for inpatient and outpatient care. Good luck!
We just moved to the area in April. I have yet to find a job posting in my specialty (L&D). I continued to work where I was working before we moved (We now live an hr from where I work). I will probably just continue to work there since I couldn't find anything here and since DH was in the military I am just tired of working in new places : )
We live a little north of Lancaster and don't know the area all that well yet to give you any more info.
Goodluck with your move!
