Babies: 0 - 3 Months

my 2 months old does not react to touch

my two months old does not turn his head when I tap him on a shoulder, poke him or stimulate him by touch in any other way. Also if I move my finger in front of his face, he does not follow it with his eyes. The only way I get him to move his head on a request is if I cover his eyes with my hand, then he either lifts his gaze or looks down, trying to escape the blockage in form of my hand. Another thing that makes him respond is if I lightly blow on his face, then he cringes and closes his eyes. Shoudl I be worried that he is so unresponsive to touch?

  • You should talk to your pediatrician about this. A lot of people do not know this, but through their community education program you can get developmental support. Most commonly it is even offered in your home. Don't worry about it until you talk to a professional, all babies react and develop at different stages! GL!

  • I agree with the pp...talk to your pediatrician. He or she may be able to ease your fears or help you and your babe get some help if he/she needs it.

  • I would definitely talk to a pedi.

I know that if you blow in a kid's face they hold their breath (it's how they get them to go under water in swim class) so I don't think his reacting to your blowing in his face is an actual response, it's more of a reflex. Your pedi should have asked you at your first visit with him (a few days after birth) if the baby was looking at your face. I would be concerned but like pp's said, not too concerned until you actually have something to worry about. Good luck! They really do develop at different times so it is more than likely nothing.
