My mom and I were talking about this last weekend. I was put in there from day one of being home and never had any sleep issues. I slept through the night pretty early on(but stopped taking naps at a year old).
For those that had baby sleep in their room was it for convenience or another reason?
Re: Did anyone put their kiddo in their own crib right away?
We kept him in our room for maybe a week... We realized it was too loud in there. It's right outside the living room, so the tv from the living room would disturb him, and we couldn't watch tv in our room either! He had his days and nights mixed up at first, and we wanted to make it dark and quiet at night. He slept so much better in his own room. We slept well also since we felt confident that he was safe with the angelcare monitor AND video monitor (yes, I'm a freak). He started sleeping longer stretches pretty quickly and was sleeping through the night consistently by 4 months (was up once a night or slept all night by the time I was back at work).
ETA - His room is on the other side of the house. The idea of the walk is a lot worse than the actual walk. I'd sit in his room in the glider and feed him and play on my iphone if I was really tired and trying to stay awake.
BFP with no treatment!
Her room will be upstairs.
Cajun-That's a good point about noise. Our bed room is right next to the living room and pretty near the kitchen. Upstairs there would be no noise at all. I'm splurging and getting an upholstered glider and ottoman for her room as well.
Mar was in her PnP next to our bed until we started co-sleeping at a few weeks old. With my c/s, it was just too much to even walk the ten steps to her room. With her next to us, Josh was able to get her, change her, hand her to me, take her after feeding, change her again and put her back down.
I don't think it's a bad thing to have them in their own room if that works for everyone, but I'd have a backup plan in case you end up with a c/s or just a lot of pain and can't manage stairs multiple times a night for the first week or two.

We had him in a PNP by the bed - just for my convenience. DS's room was upstairs, and I did not want to trek the stairs every few hours.
We put him in his room around 8 weeks - I think he was only waking maybe once through the night by then, so I slept in the guest room next door for a little while until he started STTN (I think around 11 weeks?). He loves sleeping in his crib - his room is much darker than most of the house b/c the sun doesn't creep in his window like in our room. He gets a lot better sleep there.
You'll do whatever feels right to you at the time - no matter if it is considered "good" or "bad"! lol.
Joe online spent the very first night at home with us in our room. He was too noisy and I couldn't sleep with all his little peeps and grunts ;-) That being said, our house is tiny and he is right down the hall....so not to far away and we really didn't even need a monitor bc he was so close we can hear him cry.
Add me to the "freak" club because not only did I use both (Angel Care and Video system) when ds was a baby, we still use both and he just turned 2 today!
He slept in our room for the first 2 months in a cradle and I used the Angel Care system in the cradle a foot away from me and we would haul the whole system with us if we were going to be sleeping somewhere other than home.
For the OP, we moved him to his crib in his own room right after Ike, he was just a little over 2 months old.
Tyler slept in our room the first 2 months in his pack and play bassinet and then in his swing.
His room is upstairs and I could not go up the stairs after my c-section but I wish that we would of moved him up soon after I recovered b/c it was hard the first few weeks of making the transition.
My SS slept in his crib from day 1 and my DH said it was so much easier to do it that way.
This. Except DS was in our room until 12 weeks and was sleeping from 10pm to 7 am. When we moved him to his room he started waking once a night to eat and then his sleep patterns went to hell in a hand basket, but I don't think it had anything to do with his room.
When DS was in our room he was first in the newborn napper part of the PnP, then he moved to the bassinet of the PnP. After that we transitioned him to his room. If we have another kid I don't think we will go this route again. I didn't like all of the transitions.

Elena was in her room from day 1.
Julia was in her room at about day 7. Believe me, I tried right away, but she would.not.sleep. in her crib at first. It took us that week to figure out that she needed to be on an incline to sleep.
We thought we had all the sleep answers with Elena because she was always such a good sleeper -- and we figured she was such a great sleeper b/c she was in her own room, we did a great sleep routine, etc. etc. And then we had Julia and she still struggles with sleep at 2.5 years, often calling out in middle of the night, even though we do the sleep thing the same way.

Viv's in our room, but that's where her crib is anyway... She sleeps in the crib usually, although she's still so new she's up every two hours (or more often) right now and is a lazy nurser, so I have to work at it to get her to really eat. So right now she's sleeping ON me a lot... having her in the room is very helpful, since it's only about 5 steps.
I also keep hoping DH can share the pain, although he's managed to sleep through a surprising number of shrieks and I wake up to every little cry (and he's the light sleeper whereas I could sleep through an army running past the bed generally.)
With the c-section, while I feel ok, getting out of bed sucks because using my abdominals isn't comfortable. I can't sleep comfortably on my side, either so have to either sit up in bed or go to the glider to nurse.
Maddie went to her crib the day we got home from the hospital.
Maren slept in our room (in a PNP) for 8 or 9 weeks because I didn't want her waking up Maddie in the middle of the night, since their rooms are right next to each other.
