Anyone who has or is going to cycle at Wilford? I am getting ready to go back on active duty in one week and wanted to get some more info. A few questions:
-What is the wait time to get on the list (or is there even a wait)? I have heard the wait is around a year.
-When do the cycles typically occur (I found a site from people cycling in 2008 and it appears that April and Aug are the only cycling times)
-What has to happen to be seen by RE? Would I have to get a referral from my PCP or can I self refer?
-What costs are involved? I heard it was $400 for an IUI and 5k for IVF... Does anybody know how much for ICSI?
Any input from anyone in the know would be appreciated.
Re: IVF at Wilford Hall (San Antonio)
I cycled at Walter Reed. I know that things vary from MTF to MTF, but some things are similar.
At WRAMC, they cycle four times a year, basically once a quarter.
To be referred. . . in my experience, I had received all of my infertility treatment at the Infertility Clinic at NTC in San Diego. When we PCS'd, I made an appointment with the clinic at my DH's new station. They were able to help me get started.
At WRAMC, there was a checklist that needed to be completed. The trickiest, IMO, was a current (within 12 months) Clomid Challenge. There are requirements for blood work and other things for you and your DH. My best guess is that it is similar at Wiford Hall.
My experience was good (once I got into the program, getting in was an entirely different matter and a VERY frustrating experience!). There was minimal hand-holding, but we were fortunate and got pregnant our first cycle.
If you have any questions or want to chat with someone who's been through it, feel free to page me. You can find me here or on SaIF. Best of luck and thank you for serving!
