December 2010 Moms

PSA Re: Childbirth/care/bf'ing classes

When they say they fill up fast- they aren't kidding! Thankfully I called today, we got in on the classes 1 month before our EDD by a hair and all the classes before the end of Oct/Nov are completely filled.

We are taking Prepared Childbirth, Breastfeeding basics and Baby Care Basics.

Just a friendly reminder that if you want to take classes and haven't called yet- you might want to at least call and check the availability. :-)

  • Thanks for posting this reminder. I haven't registered for classes yet because I've been debating whether to do the 5 week  "Birthing Without Fear" class that ends on October 21 or the one that ends on December 2.  I'm due December 21 and I think it'll be better if I take the later one.  I'm also going to sign up for the breastfeeding class, and the car seat class. It still seems far away, but you're right...it'll get here fast and we don't want to miss out.

  • Good heads up! I asked my OB last week if I should start to try and sign up and she said it's a little early. I might go ahead and call today!

  • Sure ladies :) I couldn't believe they were all filled up already and she said there's only a couple spots left for the Oct/Nov classes. I thought it seemed like I see pregnant women everywhere lately... and apparently they are all delivering at the same hospital :P

  • I called in after I was out of the first trimester and felt silly for calling for classes that weren't until Oct.  But better safe than sorry!

  • We were able to sign up online & I did so pretty much the minute we were out of the 2nd tri.  I am doing Bradley method which is outside of the hospital circuit & signed up for that @ like 10 wks to make sure I had a spot because they fill up insanely fast.
  • I was just talking to Mr Techie about classes this weekend. I have so much more experience with babies than he does (he's never been around an infant or a baby before) and it occured to me that he might want some additional training before the kid gets here. :)

I am pretty sure I want to take a bf class and will contact my local LLL regardless. There's also a baby/infant first aid and safety course that might be a good idea.

My hosptial gives you a discount when you register for multiple classes.
