heineken light bottle + sprite = no one knows i'm preggers!

So we had my birthday bbq over the weekend and thanks to a couple of empty heineken light bottles filled with sprite no one was the wiser!!!

It's totally silly that I resorted to such antics but, it was so funny (at least for me and dh) and it totally worked!!!

  • Nice work.  We went to a party on Friday night and my plan was to do water in my miller lite bottles, but when we got there all they had was wine and keg beer.  Screwed!  I poured tea in a cup hoping people would think it was dark beer- I am certain they all know I am pg.

  • I'm not a drinker, so I just don't get all of the "hiding" business. I mean, I understand not wanting to tell people this early, but I'd be scared there would still be alcohol residue in the bottles. That smell never goes away.
  • Nicely done!  I did a similar thing with ginger ale at a party w/ my 1st pregnancy.  DH and I went to a birthday party this weekend too and I just carried around my water bottle and sipped off it all night, I'm pretty sure everyone was quite aware of the fact that I wasn't drinking.  Oh well, at least they were polite enough not to say anything!
  • Nicely done! I'd have to pretend too. I'm not a heavy drinker but my non-pregnant self wouldn't pass up a drink at a party. We actually went to a wedding and I pretended to drink from the glass while my husband actually drank from mine and his (no bottles to hide it in, just keg beer in glasses and wine). He ended up blasted and I had a blast! One of my coworkers at the wedding actually said, "I'm watching your glass." I know it was meant out of encouragement but under such scrutiny, it's hard not to get caught. Pretend drinking didn't make me miss the real thing which I think was a good sign. Yay for tricking everyone!!

Residue will do nothing to your baby.  My doctor said even an occasional small glass of wine is harmless.  That's not to say I'm for drinking while pregnant but I just can't stand needless paranoia.

yay for tricking people and good idea on the heinekin bottle.  Might use that one soon.

  • i guess i'm a lush then because everyone would notice if i wasn't drinking lol.

dh rinsed out 3 bottles and filled them back up with sprite and kept them on ice in a bucket in the master bathroom lol.

my sister who knows, kept trying to take sips because she's not much of a drinker... i was like noooo that's all mine :)

i figure hiding it in public will be easier... i can just rely on vodka sprites and hold the vodka :)

Like you said, you aren't a drinker.  We don't expect you to "get it."  And let's be serious, the tiniest bit of alcohol residue isn't going to cause any harm.

I used to be a big drinker back in my college days and the first 2 or so years after college.  I don't drink nearly as much as I used to, but I know some of my friends would definitely know something was up if I passed on a drink.  Especially during certain occasions, like a bach party or bbq.  I LOVE the sprite in a heiney bottle idea!!  I might steal this when necessary =)

  • I'm going to have to make some 'mocktails' too the last weekend in July as well.  Not 100% how I will pull this off.  We are having a party for my husband and my family would totally notice if I didn't drink.  And I don't want my mom or middle sister knowing yet.  (Had a bit of drama with them the first time around)  I live in WI and that's what people do here...drink.  So, I'm going to have to come up with a crafty idea.

  • What a great idea!!! I'm impressed! I'll have to figure out a way to do this with wine.

We had friends over Friday night last minute and one of my friends came in the door with a bottle of wine as a gift for me and another special bottle she brought for us to drink. We always drink wine together so I totally freaked out. I tried to just ignore it and the she's like, "lets open the wine." I told her that I could have any wine right now cause I'm on some medication. She bought it until my other friend started asking questions and wanting to know if I was ok. I think I'm going to be a social hermit for the next 7 weeks or so to avoid all the questions!

I'm probably going to dinner at SIL house tonight...they will totally notice if I am not drinking (that's how DH and I knew SIL was pg last fall because she was not drinking!) so I'm trying to figure out how to "trick" them...I'm thinking of bringing my own bottle of rum for "rum and cokes" minus the rum.  They'll be drinking beer, so I can say that I'm on a diet and don't want all the extra calories of beer.  I just hope they don't notice my diet coke is caffiene free!

I just went to a wedding and told people I was drinking vodka, club soda, and a splash of cranberry, but really just had the soda and cran!  Good luck!  If someone bring you a drink, just switch with your husband and make a new one.
