Babies: 3 - 6 Months

5 months PP - still losing hair

My hair is coming out in handfuls in the shower...still!  I already have very thin/fine hair.  Is this normal??  I thought you're only supposed to lose it right after delivery.  And does Breastfeeding contribute to this??  I'm serioulsly going to be bald if this doesn't stop.

Re: 5 months PP - still losing hair

  • I'm not sure if bf-ing contributes to this (I am still bf-ing), but i wanted to let you know that I am almost 6 mo pp and still losing hair by the "clump-ful"!

  • I just saw this on the show The Doctors last week and they said if it continues after 5months you should call; or if it seems like you are losing too much to def. call because it is not normal. GL!

  • Before we conceived, I always lost a good amount of hair. Since 2 mos. PP it has been coming out like crazy, although it's about back to where it was pre-baby now. But I don't think what you're experiencing is abnormal. I have super thin/fine hair too. My mom is balding, so I know I will probably too.

  • I went to my doc about it las week and he said its stress from the new baby. I told him I've been getting up in the middle of the night to feed babies for 4 years because I'm a foster parent so this isn't anymore stressful than it has been the past few years and I'm still losing 6 times more hair. I also told him while I was pregnant our last baby got placed with his family so I'm not getting up with two babies or anything, just mine. He still says its stress. I have an appointment for a second opinion next week.
  • Mine is still falling out and it doesn't help that DS likes to pull it now too.  I have fine/thin hair too so hopefully I don't go bald.  I'm tired of the hair balls in the shower!

My LO is 6 months today and I'm still losing a decent amount of hair, although it has drastically slowed down over the last few weeks. The same thing happened with my older two kiddos - I started losing hair around 3 months pp and it finally stopped around 7 months.
  • I just started losing mine in the last week and it's so disgusting.  I really hope it doesn't last that long.  I have thick hair, so I don't mind losing some but it's getting everywhere!
