As early as 15 weeks you can pay for an elective sonogram to try for a gender determination. They can't guarantee at that time that they will be able to tell, but it's worth a shot. I think I'm scheduling one for next week.
Some of them (maybe all of them?) had CVS after the NT scan which tells the gender among other things.
This. We had a CVS, and after going through all the emotions of not knowing if our LO was ok, finding out the gender was more about us wanting to determine if additional genetic testing would be necessary.
Someone posted recently (I think she is in Texas) that her OBs office does some sort of blood test that can determine the sex? I hadn't heard about this before, so I don't know how accurate it is...
About a month or two ago, there was a lot of posts on here from people saying that they felt a little bit jealous because some of us had already had at least one, if not several sonograms. It was pointed out to them that many of us had our sonos so early/frequently because we were considered high risk (me), or had struggled with IF or had previous losses and needed to be monitored more closely. I remember people saying that they reminded themselves of that whenever they starting feeling really jealous.
For me, the shoe is on the other foot now. Being considered higher risk, I've had 4 sonos already, but now I'm feeling a little bit jealous that some people already know the gender (and since I am due so late in January, I suspect most people will know what they're having way before I do). I have to keep reminding myself that the people that already know the gender have likely had a CVS or possibly an amnio- both things I physically don't want to have done. I would much rather have to wait to find out the gender than to be in a situation that required CVS or amnio to be done.

Thanks for this- I tried to say this the other day, I would trade places with you in a heartbeat :-)
OP, I know waiting can be hard, but please know we didn't really want to have a CVS, knowing the gender was kind of an "extra"
I also don't know.. but I consider this an extra bonus or prize for the girls who had to get a cvs test down for the extra stress! Its like the doctor saying your baby is healthy and you are having a... I'm happy to hear though most the girls on our board ( i think all and if i'm wrong I'm sorry) that their babies are ok and healthy!! Which to me is better news any day than knowing the sex of the baby!! Thank god for healthy babies!

That's us. We did a blood test that determines the sex of the baby. We get the results Tuesday! It is 99.3% accurate.

ohashlet did have hers come back for turner's syndrome and her little girl has an omphalocele and heart abnormality. So far so good with her though, so continue to keep her in your thoughts!
We CVS gals who had it b/c of a larger than normal space are still not out of the woods yet :-( we need to have fetal echo's and level 2 u/s to make sure everything is OK with regard to the heart because the larger space can mean either chromosomal abnormality, heart defect or nothing.
Also, I almost hung up the phone before she could tell me the gender because I was so excited! When she asked if I wanted to know I was like oh yeah!

I'm so sorry I forgot all these! Now i feel horrible but of course all of you girls are in my prayers every night.. no matter what! Can i blame this forgetfulness on working a 16 hour last night and only having 4 hours of sleep!??

No please!! It's hard for me to keep track of all this stuff. I had to do a lot of research to be knowledgeable enough to ask questions and understand what the next steps were. The fetal echo is @ 22 weeks so I at least should be in the clear after that. Though, there is a chance that something that wasn't tested for in the chromosomal screen (ie noonans syndrome) can be present. But you know what? No one will be 100% sure of a totally healthy baby until it's born. Like I said in my great news post, everyone has been really supportive here and I think I speak for everyone when I say we really appreciate it.

I would push it off a couple more weeks to at least 18. I think things are a lot more clear then. It still may be ambiguous at 15 weeks and then you paid several hundred dollars for an u/s that didn't tell you what you wanted to know.
For me, our u/s is Aug 12th. I'll be 19 weeks.
I give up trying to get a ticker. I have a DD that is 2.5 years old and is awesome. Maybe I'll add a quote to distinguish myself. Hmmm. How about...
"It is more fun to talk with someone who doesn't use long, difficult words but rather short, easy words like "What about lunch?" - A.A. Milne, Winnie-the-Pooh
At 11w6d my u/s tech made a real effort to get between the legs and something kept popping up in between them (of course it could have been a cord, finger etc.) and then at 13w1d we got a decent shot between the legs that definitely looked like we've got a boy! I'd say we are 90% sure but we are not considering it definite, we're going to wait and see if the 20w u/s confirms it before we tell anybody.
DS (7 years old) from FET in 2010 DD (5 years old) from IUI in 2012 TTC 3rd and final!: IUI #1 in progress!
We were so impatient with DS that we had to find out the gender asap. We went to a 3D place and paid the $65 to know at 15 weeks.
This time we are a little more patient and aware that it's our last baby and want to just wait until the 20 weeks appointment with our Dr. No rushing this time, just enjoying!
I had an ultrasound done at 13 weeks (for the genetic testing) and they were able to determine the sex of the baby. He said at this point results are 90% accurate, but he was able to get two different views to show it was a little boy.

PS - but my sister who is a week ahead of me, couldn't find out because her baby wouldn't cooperate and they couldn't get a good picture.
I had a CVS and like so many others said finding out the gender was the bonus after a very stressful week of waiting for results. I would have much rather found out at my 20 week level 2 like most people. Just didn't work out that way.
