Coming for a visit!

Hello ladies! You might remember me from posting a little while back asking about Minneapolis--well we're finally making the trip up there later this month! We're road tripping to Minneapolis so that we can hit more cities on the way there and back, we're hoping to be there august 1st-4th.

So, tell me, is there anything special we should do/see/visit, etc? Any special family events going on--DS will be with us. Also, we haven't booked a hotel just yet because we wanted to take some time to shop around. I don't think S/O wants to go over $100 per night for a place and we'll probably spend most of our time inside the city. We don't mind if its not super fancy but obviously we want some place clean haha. We saw that hotel prices are significantly cheaper by the airport but we weren't really sure how much of a drive to the city from that area would be--we wouldn't mind driving maybe 10 minutes but no more than that. Any suggestions?

    The airport is close to the Mall of America and the light rail line, so if you do stay there you can probably access the light rail to get into downtown Minneapolis. It's also only a 20 minute drive at most to most parts of Minneapolis, so not a huge deal to stay by the airport.  I'm not sure offhand of anything special going on that week.
