Toddlers: 12 - 24 Months

If you have a boy...a question for you.

This may be TMI, but I was concerned the last couple of days. When I have been changing DS' diaper, the hole on his penis looks really red. He doesn't cry like it hurts to go to the bathroom and he drinks tons and wets tons. I usually CD, but have been putting him in sposies so I can put some cream on it....am I supposed to put cream there? I wasn't sure if diaper rash cream is only for around the area. Anyways, do you think it is of any concern if it's been there for a few days (more so in the mornings) and should I call the pedi tomorrow? Or just let it be-it's fine?? I have no idea! I change his diapers frequently too...so he's not sitting in wet diapers!

Thanks for your input!

  • This was happening to my DS.  We also cloth diaper. After lots of trial and error I found that it goes away when I put him in a disposable overnight. His pee was just too "harsh" next to/on his skin for that many hours.  I have put vasaline on the tip before - aquaphor would be okay too. Good luck!

  • I agree with PP. It sounds like maybe a bit of diaper rash. Put something on it and I am sure it will be gone in a few days.

  • If you are worried about Diaper rash creme on his penis, put vaseline on it instead. We have bad trouble with his circumcision getting adhesions so we use Vaseline and if it gets inflamed a teeny bit of Neosporin.

  • Our pedi says clear ointments on the penis and creams everywhere else.
  • Is your LO teething??? My DS always has issues like that with his pee sitting on him overnight if he is teething. it really makes his urine strong....I know that it doesnt help you solve the problem but it might help you combat it in the future, be proactive with a barrier ointment if you know he is teething...ykwim?

Ditto this.  DS actually ended up with a blister at one point b/c it got so bad. :-(

  • Thanks gals! I'll give it a try and yes, he's teething like crazy with no other signs of teething (not crabby or anything)....I'll stick to clear on and creams around!
