Anyone's DH not sleep in the bed with them?

Since I'm BFing and DS is not sleeping through the night at all..DH has been sleeping on the couch (which he has no trouble sleeping on) since we've come home from the hospital.  This way I have DS in the bassinet in the bedroom until he begins to sleep through the night more.  Just wondering if other people's SO sleeps in the bed with them when they have to get up for work.  I would feel bad that both of us be woken by the baby, but maybe I'm not in the norm here.  Once DS wakes up only once in the middle of the night I'm thinking of moving him to his crib so DH and I can sleep together in the bed again.

  • My DH sleeps in the guest room.  He goes to work early and I'm up all the time with Annalise.

  • Both of us sleeping in our room has never been a problem. Even when DH had to be up at 6am after gonig to sleep at 2am. At first he'd wake up when he heard the baby, now he never hears her. He's used to her by now.

  • Luckily, DH sleeps in the same bed.  Our LO is FF.  But I do have a good friend who has a 5mos old and 2 other children.  When all of them were born, she always slept in the baby's room (on a mattress on the floor) with each child so she could BF and DH slept in their bed. It worked out fine for them.

  • DH and I sleep in the same bed... no problems...
  • We've slept in the same bed with LO in the same room since day one without any problems. Both of us work, and we both have to get up. As far as I'm concerned, it's his daughter too, so he can get up with her too if need be.

  • DH and I still sleep in the same bed....... WITH our 3yr old daughter in between us! LOL. When LO wakes up to eat I take her into the nursery and feed her (FF). The crying/moving around never wakes them. I could literally put LO in DH's face with her screaming crying and it would not wake him. Sheesh.

  • Well if you are not in the norm, then I am really out of the norm DH and I have not slept in the same bed since about February when I was put on bed rest. ?I had such bad swelling I ended up in the recliner so I could keep my heart above my legs and feet and DH would sleep in the bed. ?Then after DD came we tried all sharing a room but he would snore so loud it would keep her and me up all night. ?So me and DD sleep in the bedroom and DH sleeps on the couch (which helps his back). ?We are hoping to move DD to her crib this week and we will try sleep together again! ?Well see how it goes!

  • It depends.  Dh usually starts in bed w/me and ds in pnp near bed.  By the first or second feeding, he gets too hot (i close ac vent while nursing bc it blows right on me) and moves to guest room bed.

  • He does now!  The 2nd half of my pregnancy I couldn't sleep for crap and he was always waking me up so I exiled him to the guest room (he preferred it anyway because I wasn't kicking him all night).  We're back to sharing a room now, though.  He gets up with DD first and changes her, then goes back to sleep while I feed her.  It hasn't been a problem.

  • we are slowly starting to sleep together again, DD sleeps in her own bed and is only up about once a night now (so basically sleeping through the night) but my DH slept on the couch since i was so uncomfy while pregnant and hogged the bed with all my pillows. i got to the point now i told my DH to go to bed in the room cuz if the baby gets up and doesnt go back to sleep then at least i can have the living room
  • DH has only slept in the same bed a couple times since we've been home and neither night was it for the whole night. I can't wait till DS is in his crib sleeping for more than 2-3 hours and we can sleep together again.

I was doing this until two nights ago.  The dogs are angry that they've been kicked off the bed again.

  • We slept in separate eooms after our 2nd - I was bfing and would get up for all the night feedings.  Dh would get a good night's sleep and get up with our first until he had to go to work.

It worked really well - no sense in both of us being exhausted.  We're doing it again this time - and probably will until LO is in his own room - whenever he starts sleeping for 5-6 hour stretches,  Some people think it's weird, but it's way better for our marriage than having us super-exhausted and cranky with each other.
