How much will L&D cost?

So I also visit the September 2010 board frequently and there was a post about how much everyone's L&D will cost them. My question is this with Tricare standard and/or prime, how much will you pay or how much did you pay for L&D?

Re: How much will L&D cost?

  • I got a bill for around $20 with DS but my situation was alittle different since I was sent to an off base hospital due to PROM at 35 weeks.  I think the bill was for a hearing test for DS but can't remember exactly.  But nothing other than that.

  • I was in labor in the hospital for 3 days, got Stadol, and Epidural, internal monitors, and antibiotics before birth.  W was in the NICU for a day and got antibiotics every 3 hours for 3 days after birth.  I didn't pay a single penny for any of it.
  • I was on Prime but delivered at a civilian hospital since our base only had a clinic. I paid $15 for my tv. That was it.
  • DH and I got married about a month ago so I was put on standard but applied for prime I live an hour away from the nearest MTF so I'm not sure if I'll have to go to a civilian hospital and doctor and was trying to get an idea about the cost. Thank you everyone.
  • I was on Prime with DD.  I received all of my care from a civilian doctor and delivered at a university hospital.  I paid nothing and it was a high risk pregnancy and I was in the hospital for over a week (not a c-section, though).

I just switched to Standard for this baby. The Tricare office told me yesterday that I will only pay about $15 a day for the hospital stay. Everything else is covered 100%. There are no decuctibles, co-pays or cost sharing for maternity care.

  • I was on Standard. I had a complicated delivery (emergency c-section due to pre-e & HELLP Syndrome, 40 hours treatment back in L&D after delivery), LO was in the NICU for 12 hours. Our hospital fees alone were over $30k. I paid $62. My guess is that was for the phone.

  • I'm on standard and the hospital said it would be $25 for L&D and then a $25 tv/phone bill.
  • I was in and out of the hospital durring my pregnancies for preterm labor and other issues along with L&D.  I have standard and saw a civilian Midwife.  I never paid a dime.

  • Thank you everyone :)
  • We have TriCare Prime and have yet to see a bill. I had DD back in April and was told I would have to pay for television, but so far nothing has been sent to us. My guess if you pay anything it would be for TV.

ETA: Forgot to note, I did go all natural, no epi, no nothing, and this was a hospital off base.

  • I'm on Prime, delivered at a civilian hospital with a civilian midwife. Induction, epidural, 2 nights recovery, DS's circ...and I didn't pay a dime!

  • I didn't pay one dime. Not even when we got the $86,000 bill for my sons stay at the nicu.

    I love tricare!

  • Im on standard and delivered at a civilian hospital.  I paid $115 for an induction that failed, 25 hours of labor, epi, emergency c section, 4 day stay after, DS was in the that NICU for 6 hours and then in the NICU at Childrens Hospital for 13 days and had surgery.  Everything, that ive gotten so far...which doesn't include the ambulance ride for DS, the surgeons fee and some other random things is over $300,000 already.  After those bills im guessing $350,000 total and all we paid was $115 after the deductible.

Im SO SO SO SO incredibly thankful for Tricare.

  • I'm really considering switching DD and myself to standard because I HATE, HATE, HATE the MTF here and have had nothing but bad experiences in the 3 months that we've been here. I've currently been waiting for the patient advocate to call me back since Monday. I was afraid of costs especially when we have our next LO but this post is definitely pushing me towards switching. I was expecting horror stories of crazy bills on standard.
  • We live far enough away from a MTF so we get to go to civilian doctors but still close enough to be on Prime. I have yet to pay anything for any of my doctors visits or my childrens. I do get statements from the hospital showing was they billed Tricare but I owed nothing. DS just had stitches a few weeks ago and Tricare was billed around $1300 and my cost was $0. DS and DD were delivered at a Navy hopsital and an Army hospital so this will be my first civilian delivery. According to Tricare, it will all be covered. Time will tell I guess.
  • I had my daughter in Germany and seen a civilian provider since the base there only had a small clinic that did not see pregnant women.  I only paid 50 Euro to have my own room.  It would have been free but I refused to share a room with someone, especially since they tried to put me in there while waiting for contractions to begin (water was already broken) and the lady already had her baby.
  • With DD I was on Prime at a civilian hospital and didn't pay a single cent for anything (two days of labor and induction too). With DS I was on Standard and paid about $30 for all of it, including prenatal care.
  • I stayed at the hospital for 3 days, because I had a c-section and paid 0. I have prime.

  • I paid nothing with my first Son and I am pretty sure Tricare is covering everything. I never heard about any of my Friends paying anything.
