Is it a nickname for John? I think if you don't love it, you shouldn't use it. Can you name the baby John and DH calls him Jack? As a special nickname from him?
Wow! Im really surprised, and glad, to hear that it is liked! I didn't expect that. I offered Jackson as a compromise but DH feels it's too girly. I think he likes Jack bc it's a good boyish name. If DD had been a boy, she would have been Isaac Christopher and I still like that. Growing up, I always hated the name Jack (there was a dorky kid in my class named it) and I think maybe I just can't get past that. I have a feeling that if it's aboy, his name will be Jack. I don't hate it, I just don't love it.

My uncle is Jack my mom is Jill. No joke. My grandparents thought they were funny.
I'm a teacher and do not have a good history with the name...

I really appreciate everyone's honest answers! A lot more people like that I thought would. My DH gives in to me on so many things, I feel like maybe I should just give him this since I'm on the fence. Thank so much for all your thoughts!

i really like the name jack, but that's because i have good connotations with the name (my mom's uncle was named jack and he was hilarious). i also like the name jackson - that way your DH can still call him jack and perhaps that's a name you like better. is there another name where you can use jack as the nickname if you really just can't name your baby jack? what about using jack as his middle name instead?
Jackson and Jack are both on our short list. We have a lot of family members named John (my uncle, grandfather, DH's brother, uncle, bid dad, half brother, great uncle) so we've thought of naming LO Jack sort of as a way to carry on the name without using John, because clearly, there are way too many already in our family!!
Re: thoughts on the name jack
I like it.
ETA: As long as your DDs name isn't Jill....

BTW, I LOVE Jack.
Love it!! I named my 3-legged cat Jack though, so DH wouldn't let me name one of the twins Jack.

I like it. It was on our list, but our best friend named his dog Jack, so, you know, that kind of killed it for us.
We were still considering it until last week when a coworker named THEIR kid Jack. Then we let it go.
