WTF?

We went to the pet store today to pick up new collars for the dogs - of course Will and Dash went with us. While we were there, one of the store employees came up to me, with another employee close behind. She smiled cheerfully at me, held out her arms and said, "We've come to cuddle your twins! There are two of us so we can each hold one."

I gave her a big ole one of these: Hmm

I get that multiples are fascinating to people, I really do (especially if they're identical, since for most of us the only person we'll ever see who looks that much like ourselves is in the mirror), but WTF, lady??? Don't tell me - not even ask, but tell me - that you're going to hold my children if I don't know you! You could be a crazy plague infested child snatcher for all I know, and you are NOT holding my children! People are so weird...

Honestly, I was pretty speechless! Luckily Dash started fussing so I said, "Oh they're pretty tired and fussy right now, so we shouldn't disturb them." I should have told her where to go lol, but I couldn't think of anything right at that second! I need to come up with some stock response so I'm prepared next time...

Wow! I can't even imagine EVER assuming I could hold someone's child, even if I know them! I would never, ever assume I could hold a stranger's child!

Yeah, my OBG told me to watch out for strangers because some even have the nerve to just walk up and lift the blanket that you use to cover your LO's carrier to look underneath it. How can people get that rude? I get really uneasy when ppl ask to hold B and I especially hate it when they just hold out their hands as if you're just gonna drop your baby into them automatically. I'm already uneasy when they touch him, let alone hold him!

yeah, i try not to ask, but if i really can't help myself, i will ask if i can hold the baby - only if i know the parent, of course(!), and only after i've washed my hands.

i did ask robbi if i could hold jack Embarrassed and she let me. (thanks robbi! and sorry i hope i didn't make you too uncomfortable - he's irresistible!)

Oh I'm totally OK with it if I know the person (and as long as they aren't obviously sick with a cold or anything), so if we met IRL I wouldn't mind if you held them. But some random person at the pet store? Um...no. Stick out tongue

OMG, it's so weird you posted this because this just happened to us the other night at dinner. And I was a wimp and didn't know what to say so I actually let the person hold her! It was so weird and I can't believe people do that. I honestly had no idea what to do or say. Gah. It weirds me out just to think about it.

WTF is right! That's just so odd! We went to a friend's house on the fourth of July for a party and someone asked if they could hold J. We were okay with it because by that point, we had been talking to her for most of the day and she obviously wasn't a crazy person.

I've been spending lots of time over at my parents' house lately and since my mom always has the Japanese channel on, I was shocked to see that some crazy person in Japan had been arrested for assaulting babies. She'd go to a store and approach a mom and her baby and ask to hold the baby because he/she was just too cute. After the mom let her hold the baby, she'd break the baby's legs! Obviously, crazy people like that are rare but still, that makes me never want to hand over my J to a stranger!

holy crap! that's CRAZY!!!

But yes, Lisa, that's crazy too that someone just expected to hold your LOs! I don't know what I'd say - maybe you can tell them that the boys are carriers for some strange disease!

People have come up to try to touch Bella and I usually make some awful shreeking noise like I'm frightened Yes I'm crazy like that! WTF? Why do you want to hold MY child? REALLY! I would be like "oh he has swine flu, I think it might be a bad idea"... but then again I'm naughty like that! It is a good reason though. Or you should just dress them in onesies that say "I puke on ugly people" and then say to people "oh didn't you read their shirts!"

I did have an old lady once squeal and say "OMG what happened to her arm?" (referring to her left hand) and I said "Holy *** (in a super loud voice) what do you mean what's wrong with it"... she then turned her head... this happened one other time and I told the lady "oh I cut it off last week"... WTF?! Seriously?? I would NEVER ask someone about a birthmark or a big nose or anything odd/different, even if I did wonder... I'm mean for responding that way I know but what should I say? Obviously I won't say those things once Bella is old enough to know what's going on but adults seriously do not think sometimes!

Say it, go ahead, just say it... I'm going to hell for being mean!

HAHA, MrsZiz, you made me laugh out loud. My first reaction was also being like my baby is sick and stay the F away. I've notice with pregnancy that I have become a lot more assertive and put the needs of Cashew and myself first. Hopefully if I am ever in this situation with Baby Cashew once he/she is born I will be able to channel my inner MrsZiz
