Natural Birth

Brewer Diet

Any Bradley or any other ladies doing this?

Re: Brewer Diet

  • I've heard VERY mixed things about whether it is really as beneficial as Bradley and other natural-birth advocates make it out to be.

That said, I don't think it's a bad thing for pregnant women to eat a well-balanced diet featuring plenty of protein, veggies, and fruit! I followed it fairly closely with DD, not as closely with DS, but I did try to up my protein intake and eat a healthy diet overall.

Mommy to DD1 (June 2007), DS (January 2010), DD2 (July 2012), and The Next One (EDD 3/31/2015)

  • I've heard the same thing. I thought this would be a good place to ask, especially since there are multiple mothers here that have done this before.
  • I didn't do Bradley with my first pg, but I did try to follow it loosely...I was really worried about my protein intake, and after tracking it for a few days, realized I was getting enough. I really like "Real Food for Mother and Baby" by Nina Planck better, she talks about the Brewer Diet a little bit, but has solid food advice for pregnancy.
    DS1 - Feb 2008

    DS2 - Oct 2010 (my VBAC baby!)

Thank you. I will pick that up.

  • I did the Brewer Diet, mostly for the protein, I was never getting enough. I liked it, not as strict now on it but it made me change my eating habits for better!
  • I am following the Brewer diet, as best I can! I definitely wasn't getting enough protein so I am trying to focus on that, but I think it's making me gain more weight (7 lbs in the past 4 weeks!) because I am trying to eat enough to get all that protein in! I guess I have mixed feelings about it...but I agree w/above, it does seem to be a pretty well-balanced plan for the most part.
  • Just learned about it at our second Bradley class this past week and after tracking my eating for a week I realized I am already following it for the most part. I haven't changed my diet much since being pregnant and am getting plenty of protein. Tracking has helped me realize that I need to up my leafy greens and vegetable in take. Seems decently balanced as others have said.
  • i have been following it *very* loosely.  basically i just try to eat a bit more protein.  I add a HB egg every morning to my breakfast and some other stuff.  other than that, not really following it.
