Hi,
Can anyone tell me what you did to fill out the forms for the NJ family leave act and how much time it gave you? Can you use it in conjunction with whatever your employer offers? Is there a cap of $561 a week? Can you also apply for disability as well? I had my twin girls 5 weeks early and am playing catch up now with my maternity leave.
thank you
Re: NJ Family Leave Act
Here is the link https://lwd.state.nj.us/labor/fli/fliindex.html. Here is what I'm doing: I have disability through work for 6 weeks after the baby is born. Then I have to file for family leave through NJ which can be up to 12 weeks. This is unpaid but guarentees your job. With the new Family Leave Insurance you can get paid up to 6 of those weeks for the birth or bonding with a child. It's usually capped at around $500/wk. This cannot be used with what your employer offers you. It can be used as an extension of what they offer you.
It's a bit confusing. I've read the website like 10 times to make sure I understood it. Hope this helps.
she's right... i posted in the previous post too... but yes, you CANNOT start your paid bonding claim until your STD (employer sponsored private plan or state plan) runs out... and it can start the day after, or whenever you want up to 12 mos after baby's birth... (and can be intermittant)... yeah, it's something like $561 a week or something like that... but you need to notify your employer 30 days before your INTEND to file, so that's 30 days before your STD is set to expire. so, if you're STD is expiring, say, in 2 weeks, you will probably not get full 6 weeks of pay from the state b/c you 'didn't give enough notice'...at least notify them as soon as possible, and then you can decide how much of that up-to-6-wks you want. your employer fills out section D i believe (and you do A and B on the forms), and they cannot even submit it until your STD runs out, don't forget.
it's all super confusing, and i've called the dept of labor like 6x for clarification ... best of luck...
I could be wrong, but I believe that the 12 weeks FMLA is separate from disability and / or using vacation/sick days.
I know - it is confusing!! Good luck
