rocker/glider

did you get one? if not, do you wish you had one?

if you did get one, which one did you get?

i'm on the fence about this and don't want to spend a ton if we do decide to get one.

thanks :)

Re: rocker/glider

  • We bought an upholstered one. We want to use it in our upstairs family room after it is out of the nursery. It is a Best chair. We bought it from USA Baby and we picked the fabric. It was about $500 and it was worth every penny.

My little guy had to be rocked constantly for the first few months and it was soooooo comfy. And to think we almost didn't buy one.

  • We didn't. For us it was mainly a space issue and I had the choice between a glider or a dresser. Because Tracey was in our room for so long I just kept one of those study buddy arm pillows on our bed and nursed here there. I never really rocked her, so it wasn't something she developed a need for. She would much rather be held and bounced.

  • We bought an upholstered glider (I think the brand was Little Cottage) from Babies 1st. I loved my SILs and have watched it hold up through the 4+ years they've had it. We ordered it in a neutral fabric and plan to use it for DC2 or the gameroom.

  • We got one of the base models from BRU on sale.  I didn't want an upholstered one since it wouldn't go anywhere else in our house after we were done using it for C.  I'm glad I did as he loved being rocked and now he'll climb up and rock himself or read books in it.  Plus he loves to play with the foot stool.  Well worth $100 bucks.
  • We bought a glider at a garage sale for $50!  It was nice for night time feedings but knowing how little we have truly used it, it wouldn't have been worth it to me to spend more than $50.

  • I got a Poang chair from IKEA. It's more of a bounce motion than rocking, but it worked. I love that it has good back support for me. The arms aren't padded, which is the biggest drawback, but with a boppy in my lap that's not really noticeable. I made a new cover for the chair pad so that it could match the nursery exactly, but there are a fair number of colors available.

  • We did and I'm so glad we did. DD loves to be rocked to sleep and we all love the glider. It helps soothe her too. We got a big one (I call it Mammoth) in a style we can likely move to another part of the house one day. We got it a Baby's 1st and they were FABULOUS as they replaced our chair when it started squeaking a little. No questions asked. Great customer service. We got this chair in chocolate brown since it reclines too. I wish we had gotten the ottoman too but ILs bought it as a gift for us and I didn't want them to spend anymore than they did and then I never got around to ordering one ourselves. I use a nursing stool now but an ottoman would have been more comfy.
  • We bought a nice Shermag glider from BRU. Obviously only barely used it so far, but I like it! Haven't rocked a lot yet since she tends to nurse and pass out anyway. But it's super comfy and reclines.... I've already fallen asleep in it  few times. With a 20% off coupon it was under 300 (we skipped the ottoman because we already had a small stationary one.)

This is the one we have too, in chocolate brown, plus the ottoman.  My parents bought it for us and I do not know what I would have done without it.  It's huge, comfy, and the fabric is really plush and soft.  We've had it for 2.5 years almost and I adore it.  It will go to another part of the house, I'm sure (or maybe Char will want to keep it in her room) once we don't need to rock her anymore, which I'm hoping won't happen for a while (she's nearing 2.5).

The reclining feature is one of the best things.  I cannot tell you how many nights I spent sleeping in that with Charlotte after nursing her when she was an infant.  It is super comfortable.  WELL worth the money, IMO.
