Pregnant after a Loss

Birth Story and new PsIP

I'm sitting here with Avery sleeping on me, so I decided to finally write up my birth story!

Last Thursday night, 37w1d, I started to have some pressure in my back but thought I was just constipated. DH was flying home from his last business trip before my due date so I was home alone. He got home at 11 PM, and by 2:30 AM I was in PAIN - awful in my back, and starting to wrap around, and started timing contractions at 3. I talked to my doc who told me to keep timing, then I ate, showered, packed my bag while trying to breathe through contractions. We got to the hospital at 7:30 AM. The nurses treated me as an "observation" but the doc got there and checked me at 9:30 AM and said I was 2 cm and was having a baby that day! DH was shocked as he thought these were the "practice contractions" and that I "hadn't lost a plug yet." hahah. He thought we'd be sent home and he'd be going to his client meeting an hour away!

Doc broke my water right away, and I got my epi at 11 AM - heaven. Well, heaven after I got over the weirdness of it. Not being able to move my legs really freaked me out at first, but after a bit I gained more control over them and could move, but didn't feel anything. Thank goodness I couldn't feel anything because back labor was the most painful thing I have ever experienced! I progressed to 5 cm, but stayed there from 3-7 PM so they had to do a c-section. Turns out baby girl was frank breech and what they thought was head was actually her bottom. They were really surprised since they were picking up her heartbeat way down low.

Avery Corinne was born on July 9, 7:34 PM, at 37w2d. She weighed 5lbs 13 oz and was 19 inches long. DH watched them pull her from me (this shocked me as he was terrified!) and cut the cord. He was in tears the entire time and just kept saying "she's so awesome" over and over. I could hear everything going on and was just beaming, laughing, and crying all at the same time - what a moment. I'm so glad I didn't have them give me anything to make me woozy - I had wanted something as I was freaking out at first, but then the anesthesiologist talked me out of it saying I'd want to remember that moment, and that in just a few minutes I'd be a mom.

Avery lost a bit of weight in the hospital (went to 5lbs 4 oz) so we had to supplement with finger feeding which has made getting back to breastfeeding a bit tough, but we are working on it and she's up to 5 lbs 8 oz.

We are so in love with her, and I could sit and just hold and watch her for hours. We have had some rough nights but I wouldn't trade this for anything in the world.

I love her little nose. This pic looks so much like her 20w u/s pic - it's amazing!
