Does anyone have any experience with Bambino Mio cloth diapers?

Greetings! I am in the process of trying to pick a cloth diaper system (or combo of systems) for our next baby. We did disposables with our first son and I felt guilty every day.

Having never done cloth diapers, I am overwhelmed with all the choices! I *think* I want to do prefolds and covers, but that's probably because it's most close to what I imagined cloth diapering being before I started really looking into doing it. I am pretty committed to shopping locally whenever possible, but I don't have a lot of options in town on what CD's are offered.

The system I have so far been most drawn too (but probably because it's the only prefold system in any local shop) is the Bambino Mio.There aren't a lot of reviews online for them, though the ones I've found have been mostly favorable, so I thought I'd see what wisdom you ladies had to share about them.

Of course I can buy g-Diapers at Babies R Us, so if anyone has input on those (with prefolds or their cloth inserts) that would be appreciated too! And while I like to buy local (not that BRU really qualifies as "local"!) I am totally not a hard nose about it and shop online for lots of things. So if there is another system you would recommend that I would need to buy online, I'd love to hear about it too!

I'm sure I'm going to have lots more questions for you pros as I move forward! Hope that's okay! :)

  • My biggest recommendation would really be to not commit to too much of any one thing at first.  I am not familiar with Bambino Mio, but I have used prefolds.  The nice thing about them is that if you decide you don't like them, they are useful for other things - diaper inserts, burp cloths, cleaning rags.

I just looked at the Bambino Mio system online and I see they only have two sizes of prefolds.  This means that the smallest size is likely going to be quite large on your baby.  You can fold them down to make them fit, so it's not that big a deal, but some people get frustrated by the extra bulk.  I also don't know anything about how their covers fit (not all covers fit well on all babies).  I would hate for you not to like this option, and decide, based on that, that CDing is not for you.  Jillian's Drawers online store offers a CD trial that a lot of people rave about.  I personally just bought a bunch of different diapers to try, and have only ended up reselling one kind.

If you're looking for prefold recommendations, I highly recommend Green Mountain Diapers.  They have excellent prefolds.  My favorite covers are Thirsties Duos (GMD sells them, and you can get them other places as well).

    Good luck!

  • Just buy green mountain diaper prefolds and get some cute covers. You willbe better off than that system of glorified prefolds that you are talking about.
  • Agree with the pp's. Don't waste your money on that system. I would also recommend the GMD prefolds with Thirstie covers. It seems like the MIO would have lots of leaks due to incorrect sizing. I also did not like the GDiapers, and they cost a ton of $$$!

  • I found that green mountain diapers was the best resource for me when I started looking into cloth diapering. I've ordered my base stash from there. The lady that runs the website has a lot of insite on cloth diapering and I love reading her little blurbs on the products she has in stock.
