sleeping on the bottle

My lo is constantly falling asleep taking his bottle...I know this is normal but he only gets about half or less of it before zonking out.  We do everything to try and keep him up, burping, talking to him, taking him to the basement where it's cooler...nothing works.  I feel like we waste more formula than we use.  Anyone else have this problem or any ideas.  He's been a sleepy eater since birth and is now 7 weeks.

Re: sleeping on the bottle

  • Have you tried rubbing the back of his neck (by his hair)? That worked when I was BFing. It would make her start drinking again instead of sleeping. Also, tickling his feet. Sometimes if I pull the bottle out of her mouth just a little, she will start to drink again.

  • Yes, we try that too...guess I'll just have to keep doing everything to find the one thing that will wake him up enough to keep drinking!
  • This happens to us too, sometimes I have to change her diaper in the middle of a feeding to arouse her...or even strip her down if I really feel she needs to eat more. Oh, and I also touch her hands/palms and that seems to awaken her as well. Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't--but good luck to you:-)
