Not sure your budget, but you can get great deals on maternity clothes at consignment stores (Bellies to Babies in Richfield and Nine in Hopkins is where I went). They sell the nicer brands like Pea in a Pod at a low price.

My advice is to start looking early (before you need them). I would see all kinds of cute stuff when I wasn't pregnant and when I really needed it I was at a loss.
Buy Pea in the Pod at Macys because they have a liberal return policy (if you buy at their store in Edina you have to be sure you want it).
I've found cute stuff at Motherhood Maternity. After I went on a shopping spree there though I realized that Macy's also carries that line and they have a much better return policy than the actual store (you actually get refunded instead of just store credit). Not all Macy's carry the line, but Southdale does. Pea in the pod is very nice, but very expensive to wear for such a short time.
And yes, there are a lot of ugly things out there, but mixed in are a lot of good clothes! I also bought some things at the baby gap at southdale. There's a small maternity section there. They have cute pants...not so much shirts, but the pants are actually stylish! Hopefully you also have a few friends that have been pregnant in the past who can borrow you some clothes...I have a good size wardrobe now between their clothes and the stuff I've bought!
Oh and in the meantime, get a bella band from Target (or something like it). It works wonders to be able to use your own pants for a while longer. And it's much more comfortable than forcing them to close on their own. It allowed me to wear my own jeans until 20-22 weeks. Worth the investment!
I agree with the earlier post, Bellies to Babies in Richfield is great (www.belliestobabies.com) They have a great selection and since people only wear maternity items for a few months, it's still in really great condition. Also, when you are done with them, you can sell them back. I haven't been to Nine, but have heard good things about them too. Pea in the Pod and GAP were my favorite brands. Both were really well made and stylish. I had some GAP maternity jeans that I loved and bought a few pair off ebay too.

I second Pea in the pod and hot mama. Macy's at Rosedale carries Pea in the pod. I just bought 2 awesome nursing bras there and just love them.
