Sleeping - F/U about last night *updated*

**Update**

Darn, I knew I spoke to soon. Last night was great, but tonight is going to be the true test. So far it has been 45 minutes of trying to get to sleep. It is gonna be a LONG night.

****

First off I want to say thanks for all of the help and support! I was so nervous about last night and all of the encouragement and tips really helped me settle down.

Now here is the kicker. We didn't have to let him CIO last night. he pretty much went to slepp on his own.

Evan was pretty cranky when he came home from daycare because he isn't sleeping well there either. We made sure to play with him and keep him active until an hour before his bedtime when we started calming him down. I changed him into his jammies, gave him a bottle, then took him upstairs to read a book. We decided that we would not swaddle him or use his sleep positioner. Since we were prepared to be up all night, we would just break him of all of these habits. As DH and I were discussing whether we should give Evan his paci, he rolled to his side and fell asleep. He stayed that way for four hours.

At midnight he started crying, and DH thought he was in for hours of crying. Nope. He gave Evan his paci and rubbed in tummy for a minute and then left and Evan fell asleep. At 2:00 we noticed him wake up and I got up to start warming a bottle. No need. He settled himself before I got get everything together. He didn't wake until 4:00 (8 hours after he had last eaten) so I made him a bottle and he was back asleep within 20 minutes. He didn't wake up again until 7:00 when I usually get him up.

We are totally prepared for last night to have been a fluke, but what a wonderful night it was. We will see how he does tonight. Fingers crossed we won't he won't need to CIO.

  • That is awesome!! I hope it wasn't a fluke and that it continues to go well :) Aiden has been a pretty good sleeper all along but removing the swaddle actually made it better for him too (he would wake up while trying to get his arms out)

  • I hope he keeps it up!  We never did any sort of sleep training but at one point we felt we might have to and that night he seemed to change into a great sleeper.  I hope the same is true for you!
  • Thursday night was a dream. Friday night took an hour and a half and many trips from mom and dad for LO to fall asleep. At 10:00 PM it feels like we have been up forever and we are totally exhausted. I am scared about how the rest of the night will go. At least tomorrow is Saturday and we can nap in shifts if needed. Ugh.
